I live in Burwell (near Newmarket). I have President McKinley (factory default) set up as a bases station. I have a Thunderpole Silver Rod 1/2 Wave antenna 1.5 Metre Interlocking Steel Pole. Are there ant nets in near where I live? What channels are used as calling channels? I have so far only spoken to one person in Newmarket

Hello Robbie.

Have a look in the nets & skeds section of the forum here's the link

https://charlietangodxgroup.forumotion.com/f20-nets-and-skeds

UKFM calling channel is usually 19 and the SSB calling channel is 27.555Mhz USB (not available on a factory default Mckinley)

Local chat can take place different channels though.

73's Gary.

Hi Robbie
Welcome to the radio hobby if you've not been a user before the best bet is to use the 27.555 on usb if I'm honest there's no one local to me anymore who use the 19 on 11 meters anymore but on a good day the 555 can be very busy depending on conditions etc
Other channels to look out for are 27.385 LSB that's the USA calling channel active from about 12 onwards daytime also some nets during the week so check the interweb for those channels and where they are in the UK .
HopE this helps 73 .

Hi Robbie,

As above, I'd recommend that you program that bad-boy to use SSB.....you'll then be able to talk to the world bud!

Cheers,

Simon.
