From scanner use, I would be surprised if you achieved anything with 49mhz, unless you use it in a very remote location, as it is full of baby monitors.

Do you realise that someone has siad 49mhz is a frequency that baby monitors use also a lot of my grand children's remote contro
n l toys run on that frequency too ,so it seems your going to stick a antenna up high with extra power just because its frequency to be used as you said, well if somebody blocks out one of your family members baby monitors at the wrong time or if one of them was playing with remote toy you would be the first to complain.

Wouldn't a base antenna make it illegal to use anyway. And as said if you interfered with a baby monitor well one in my family it could get painful when i found out who it was.

Stephan why not go for the old 26.965 mhz, that was the old illegal cb band , there are tons of old am cb's knocking about. the police used to say it caused them interference back in the day, now they are on tetra I do not see a problem ,

@frank133 You do realise that the old AM frequencies are now legal to use now , so its not illegal any more ,its has been for the last 3/4years . if he wants to play at being real pirate he should try going on Echo Charlie frequencies .

Nubster ,no i did not know the old AM channels are now legal, I still have a few of my old am rigs. There is no point using them because no one is on them ,Maybe in the summer if conditions are right with the sun spots, I might hook them up ,to see if I can still get the odd American trucker on the skip ? Most days in my area there are at the most 6 people on channel, all on 19,on FM I am a few years older than you,and remember the camaraderie that went with illegal am rigs,

Frank there is people who use the AM they have networks on there , I myself use it a lot with my mates, but I and my mates have never really stopped using AM since we all started in the illegal days of CB in the 70s so its second nature to us lol,you can now also use SSB which I've never stopped using either, but legal now you can only on the mid bands legal everywhere else still illegal.

Nubster ,nice one, there are no networks up here ,on any cb modes, not many people on at all. I remember in the old day's a station near Crick off the MI, called station Orange, who was the guy who monitored traffic, he used to do then what a sat nav does now, Most people today would sooner text than talk, Take care

Its not exactly exciting on the radio in London mate so no difference there ,yes the old days where better on CB as you said ,but hopefully if the good conditions ever come back for radio SSB will be something to look forward to, but ATM radio is pretty dead-ish all over on all modes apart from a few networks which I find boring TBH.

Could be wrong but are most baby monitors , cordless phones etc not using uhf freqs ? Must be very old units to still be running analogue 49mhz monitors. Very rare to hear cordless phones / baby monitor transmissions on 49mhz here anymore.

Well maybe so I don't know TBH but just incase wouldn't it be better to safe than sorry, my concern is the baby monitors, not worried about cordless phones TBH in fact that is definitely something I haven't seen for a long time a cordless phone.

I think you would be surprised that how many people nowdays don't even know what CB Radio is or even if they have heard about it that its still being used that includes the government.
