Hi All..... Looking at getting out and about on a weekend with the family, going mobile in the minibus ..... Any decent places to go around Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire. High enough to get out to the other countries.. Many thanks. DAN

Hi. Dan.
Rod RD15 gets up on Caister Top Lincs. He gets into the Southern Martin LR004 gets up on Ashover Rock Chesterfield. Tom DA 057 gets upon high ground @ Naseby. Contact any of these guys for local high spots. U won't get much DX atm as we're in the low for 12/18mths. U will get the occasional lift. But u will have to sit by Radio till it comes. Just work local net's atm. ie. ECN/MW. check Nets& Skeds topic for info. Good luck/Dx. 73's Mike SW.26.

just to enlighten some more about Rod's setup, he uses a homemade coax gainmaster on a fiberglass pole lashed to a farmer gate, and thats the lincolnshire top around here as it's mostly a flat county

Rod gets out well from Caistor, I often manage a contact with him when I'm on the Isle of Wight. I am going to knock up a Gainmaster myself for my next aerial experiment - the design looks quite straightforward.

There is no more Eastern Counties Net. Were only putting on odd special events as and when. Ive worked 50Dxcc on 11mtr this year and have missed many more. It's not all doom and gloom for the next 12 /18 months at all. Its just you need to put some effort into finding them rather than just turning on for 10 minutes and proclaiming its dead because you heard nothing in that short time.

Indeed it is. I've been monitoring AM midband a few times this last few weeks and barely a whiff except for last week when, out of the blue, I was suddenly listening to "Johnny" and his buddy chatting away on 27.185 from somewhere in the republic of Ireland. It was in & out a bit and only lasted 15 minutes but it was nice to confirm that there is the occasional lift, best thing I think is to leave a rig powered up/squelched on 19 and keep one eye on the meter for anything approaching a speech pattern.
Even better if you have a scanner you could leave scanning through the band, possibly worth monitoring amateur 10m too if you have the gear as that might provide a clue as to propogation if it suddenly bursts into life.
