Subject: AM Freqs Activity Thu Nov 04, 2021 11:06 pm
Hi There,
I've been scanning the AM channels recently, and don't seem to pick anything up at all. Are these cahnnels pretty much dead nowadays? I pick up a bit on FM, maybe I need a larger antenna
Thanks

Hello jf812,The Am band is far from dead,Here in London most morning on channel 20 AM I chat with 50 Divisions in Russia. It’s just dictation by propagation conditions. At the moment it’s a bit poor for skip but that will soon pass.Check out channel 6 Am as you know that’s the Super Bowl for the USA and also channels 20,22 and 28 as they seem to like those too.1 Divisions Italy and 30 Div spain love the AM band also.Just stick with it and your be surprised it’s silent one day and a buzz of activity the next.As for your Antenna I don’t know what your using? But when the bands open your hear them. Hope thar helps as it’s just radio conditions and timing. Cheers Tom. 26 CT 4029

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the info, i'm using a PNI 48 magmount at the monent, which to be fair is relatively small. I may look at some 140 cm+ alternatives. Will get to some high ground and see what's out there, many thanks
