Must be frustrating missing it....
I heard the triple 5's light up like mad on 11 meters and called for all I was worth! Nothing! No reply, nada Same with the local net at anytime, can hear them but get no response back calling. Doubted my rig for ages, (but confirmed working), hence looking for antenna solutions.
Now that's frustrating
Hee. Hope whoever caught it got some good calls

Hope all of you enjoyed Christmas and New Year celebrations
Nice to be back to some sense of 'normality'......the one where I don't get filthy looks when I disappear to check out the radio or the handy beeps the local 70cms repeater callsign
Apparently it's not the done thing during the festivities......
Seemed to be fine for everyone else with mobile phones?!?!?!

Thanks Vic, had a quiet but enjoyable Christmas in our household.
I did a bit of SWL on the C.B. bands just the usual breakers chatting away, moved the shack into a smaller room in the house and spent Sunday afternoon just gone on 20 & 40, made a few contacts so happy days. I'm thinking about a change of antenna from the current resonant Tri-bander to a doublet and matcher arrangement still at the planning stage though!!!
Best 73's Gary.

Morning Gary,
"Quiet Christmas"? You lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, you get what I mean Oh for a quiet Christmas Glad you had a good one mate.
Shack move....now more organised? Everytime I move something I forget where I've put it!
You'll have to let me know how you get on with the doublet if you get yours done before me. I'm still scrounging parts for a decent homebrew matcher but getting there.
All the best

Hi Vic,
Yes will do, I will probably start in a few weeks time, I put a new video card in the P.C. today so that's set me back a big chunk on change, I have to plan these things or Mrs W will tell me off for spending too many bucks on tech nonsense!! lols I might have to consult Tim G5TM who's been messing about with doublets for ages I'm sure he's found some configurations that work well.
73's Gary.

Hi Gary,
Ooh, don't mention video cards! Bought a dual output job a while back to run two screens on my Linux setup....was a pig to sort. Gotta do it all again once the daughter moves back out and I can gain access to the PC again. My Mrs still won't let the cost of that little venture slip by
Yeah, came across Tim on my quest for ladder line fed antennas. He's a great experimenter and happily shares his work and results. A real asset to amateur radio.
I'm still plonked with my fan array antenna in the loft although with a youthful volunteer to hand and my Ham friend we've got it cracked to less than 1:1.2swr on 80m, 40m, 20m and lengthened the 10m for 11m transmission. (A simple pi-matcher easily pulls them across bands except for 160m)
Thing is, the itch to chat back has grown strong...SWL isn't quite cutting it for me anymore....
With that, I've planned a visit to the local Amateur Radio club to enquire about getting my ticket Why not? Heck, even the RSGB headquarters is right on my doorstep, solar cycle 25 is firing up and I might pop me clogs before seeing cycle 26!
If the Mrs enquires....I can blame you Charlie Tangos! Ha!
All the best!

Nice one Victor, all fine business there. I just popped a Geforce RTX2060 Super into the PC that I built earlier this year, perhaps a little extravagant but fancied a bit of a powerhouse P.C.
Yes go on and do your Ham ticket Vic, you would walk the foundation exam and you can then scratch the TX itch buddy.
I've done all three courses and am licenced at Intermediate level, unfortunately the day of the advanced exam my mum was rushed in to hospital with a suspected heart attack so I had to go to Wiltshire and missed the exam.
I must get round to taking it before I forget too much of the content and have to start all over again.
It's amazing what can be achieved with just 10 watts and a decent antenna I worked Africa, Israel, Russia and most of Europe with my M6 call sign so lots of fun to be had.
Now Vic don't go blaming me for your desire to unload a life's savings on shiny new radio kit that ones going to be all on you mate!!!
All the best 73's Gary.

Cheers Gary, much appreciated.
Family comes first mate, bless your mum, hope she's all well. The main reason for my radio break was growing family of my own, then grandchildren.....then they move back in! But you gotta help family as and when you can
Hee, life savings pretty much went to pot once I became disabled. Despite disability laws you never get that second interview or job offer.
However, shiny and 'new to you' radios come along from unexpected sources..... My Ham friend has built up his lust for a Yeasu FT101 setup with all the vintage accessories, treated himself to a Yaesu HF/VHF/UHF portable and then turned up before Christmas bearing a little gift.... (Ssshhh - Yaesu FT757GX - bl**dy nice rig!)
So I can't put all the blame on you lot, he had something to do with it too
But I gotta say, I was about ready for the knackers yard until I discovered this here Charlie Tango group. You've all got me firing on all neurons again with a renewed lust for life!
All the very best to all of you

You're most welcome Vic,
Yes family first always and thank you my mum is reasonably well it wasn't what they thought thankfully but she's cracking on a bit now and has all the privileges of being 'Senior! (not)
That's the thing Vic, we just don't know what's around the corner in life and we haven't got the fairest of society structures in Britain these days, ten years austerity has taken it's toll!! (too political)
That Yaesu FT757GX is a nice rig mate you'd have to part with a few hundred quid to pick one up from the usual sources so nice one there I need an introduction to your pal!!!
I'm glad the forum got the neurons fired up again mate that's a really nice thing to say, get that foundation ticket sorted then hopefully you can work a few of us on the bands.
