| Hello Matt, I think many of us do both, I started with C.B. then became a ham afterwards. I still enjoy the informality of operating on 11 meters. You may not be aware in addition to the U.K. FM frequencies we now have the American and EU frequencies often referred to as the 'Mid Block' and there you can use SSB, AM, and FM so plenty of fun to be had. Just don't tell the lads down the radio club you might get shunned! 73's Gary. | |

| Hi Matt, Welcome to the mad, bad, fun & frivolity world of CB As Steve pointed out....the addiction gets worse! Gary's pointed out one of the advantages that got me interested back in it all again, no licence required now, (although I dont remember many CBers having one in the first place!), UK frequencies, CEPT (euro) or "Mid Block/US" being legally allowable along with FM/AM & SSB modes! All good stuff. I've been surprised at the amount of Hams enjoying CB but there's still a lot of Hams that frown upon it for some reason. Above all, enjoy yourself mate. You're off to a good start by being here with this Charlie Tango lot Never met such a fun loving, warm and welcoming, resourceful and helpful bunch of people in my life! Proud to be a Charlie Tango All the best, Victor _________________ Theory means that we know everything, but nothing works. Practice means that everything works, but we don't know why. | Thanks a lot guys for the super warm welcome Im really enjoying it at the moment and have managed a couple of contacts. I have just got a small amp with preamp and some 25amp cable and fuses so I can wire it directly to the battery next week. Excited for that. Also looking at upgrading my CB to an alinco dr135 or Lincoln 2 plus in the future. Thanks again for all the kind comments | |

| It happens to us all, I started on CB and got my Amateur Licence in 1988. I still have a CB, and always have had and now it is taking off again it has restarted my addiction too.

| Got a wall full of first place in England and a first in world in ham radio contests and several DXCC, still got a CB in the car. In fact I'd say around where I live there's much more activity on CB than VHF/UHF and as for HF there's only so many "5/9 73 QRZ?" contacts a man can have in a lifetime. | |

| Gary above. Hello mate. "Mid block" can my cobra 148gtldx handle them? Gonna be sending the rig over to George Donaldson to work his magic on. I've watched a lot of his videos and love his work. I ain't got a clue on what kind of money it will cost for a service tweak and tune. Any idea roughly? Please | |

| Hello Keats,
Yes buddy your Cobra will do that, it's the group of frequencies from 26965MHz - 27405MHz it should say Low-Mid-High on the radio and obviously you would select Mid. I don't know what a tune up would cost I'm afraid you'd need to contact the whoever does it for you.

| Hi Gary. Thanks for getting back to me. So mid block is middle side band? I've been away too long. I'm so looking forward to getting back into it. I'll be reeling others into doing so too. I have a great idea for the lonely pensioners in the area. . | |

| Hello Keats,
The mid block is the group of frequencies, you can use AM FM or SSB on them. On UKFM you can only do FM but your Cobra only goes there in a quirky way and not all of it so I wouldn't bother to be honest.
That's great if you can get a few others involved you might be surprised how many of them have used radio in the past!
