Im looking at getting back into CB and DX on ssb...but have been away so long the types of radios now available really confuse me..Back in the day I was using a COBRA 148 and a Superstar 360 running through a zetagi 150mwatt amp , 8 foot firestick on a pole strapped to the tow bar on my car and many dark nights in lonely places trying to avoid the notorious dept of trade ( now ofcom ) detector vans..
I have tried my old York 863 40ch FM ( 27/81 ) But haven't heard anyone on those channels ..
So if I want get back into cb what would you recommend ?
I can't spend loads as my wife says I have too many hobbies so as cheap as possible please ..
many thanks

The crt ss6900 is something along the lines of the old 148 gtl-dx. There are many like that but that would be my choice as not so many little buttons and strange things lol. The old FM is nothing like it was where i live it is dead as a dodo. Myself and many others on here went for our Ham ticked after returning to radio after a long time away and not finding cb the same. You will get many recommendation on here soon. Welcome back to the hobby.

When I came back to CB/DX some years ago I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable costs for such radios. Nice to be bang on frequency as well. Having spent some serious dough on Cobra back in the day.
If you are going out in the motor again which is great for distances and DX one of these and a good quality mag base will outperform your fire stick I suspect especially if on your roof as opposed to the rear bumper/boot.
Good time to come back 11m is slowly hotting up for DX as the sunspot max approaches.

Just my 5 pennyworth, worth considering is a CRT 7900v, channels as well as frequency read out, been around a while as I also have the first edition 7900 and just bought one for mobile, the latest version the 7900v, easy to use and a large read out.
