Subject: 33cm on 934 MHz anyone ? Fri Jun 28, 2024 1:04 pm
Hi there, I just recently found out there was some CB Radio allocation on 33cm band, at 933/934 MHz. Back in the day. It's completely defunct now. Did anyone use it ? Does anyone still use it ? Any exeriences the old one would like to share ?
I understand only 3 countries worldwide had an allocation for 33cm-CB. That is Japan, Switzerland and UK. In Japan and Switzerland you could not directly dial a channel and listen and talk, rather there was some automated call-group (5 digits) to channel assignment going on. The radios would sync on the first channel with digital coding and choose a channel that is not in use automatically. Weirdly modern for a hobbyist system from the 80s. In the UK it was just simply 40 More channels but at 934 MHz. All three countries used marginally different frequencies and were incompatible. UK 934 MHz, CH 933 MHz and JP 901 MHz (as far as I could figure out). Not much info left out there.

Did try it once for a short time way back late 80s i think it was. It was very line of sight i found and only over a short distance. I believe it's not a legal frequency anymore in the UK. Kit was very expensive as well back then.

Same as Alan,
I couldn't afford the expensive kit required. You can still buy the radio's on eBay but as far as I'm aware the allocation has been withdrawn and is now used in telecommunications (I stand to be corrected)
Ironically I love the 70cm band I wish it was more used for Simplex, when you get up high some astonishing distances can be achieved.
Best 73 Gary.

Think you are right there Gary. Telecommunications rings a bell. Over a months mortgage to buy mine i also had a beam at home can't remember the price of that. I was the local rig-doctor back then a flash bartender lol.

Could never afford the 934MHz stuff when I was a kid, and the band was withdrawn decade ago and the frequency allocation sold to the telcos for cellular/mobile.
Interestingly, the US have a 33cm Amateur allocation, but the closest I get now is 23cm/1.2GHz Amateur. Very much line of sight.
