Subject: RF jamming devices UK Today at 11:13 am
So a while ago I had a neighbor complaining about my antenna and the sound of my radios which aren't very loud. The properties have very poor sound proofing so no matter what I do the complaining neighbor will always hear stuff regardless of how quiet I try to be.
Recently I've been suffering with a RF noise issue which prevents me from receiving incoming stations HF/VHF "haven't tried UHF yet" and I am suspicious that a neighbor is using an RF jammer. I can't be too sure just yet but these devices are widely available, inexpensive and work within 100 meters.
I can be receiving just fine then all of a sudden its like somebody flicks a switch and I get full scale noise and can't hear incoming stations on either bands. At first I put it down to general local noise like Christmas LED lights and I know HF is susceptible to noise but the fact I'm now getting it on VHF two meters I'm getting suspicious that a neighbor is using an RF blocker to deliberately interfere with my hobby.
I'm yet to investigate more into this... and find out if somebody in the block is using an RF blocker.
As far as I'm aware RF blockers are illegal but I suspect reporting such an issue will probably mount to nothing. If there is somebody using an RF jammer is there much I can do?

I a licenced station the OFCOM can look into this. Next time you put the radio on turn it up a little so you know they can hear it and see if the rf noise comes on. Try that a few times and see. Well that's what i would do.

If you suspect nearby rf interference, or a jamming device, build a simple passive wideband field strength meter with a directional antenna. All you'd need would be a cheap analogue microammeter, four germanium diodes, and a ferrite torroid.
Like this one, but I'd use a loop antenna. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U83zMsEZgG0&ab_channel=CrazyHam%2FVK3-VKe
If you wanted to go one step further, you could use a scope. A deliberate jamming device would probably emit a sawtooth waveform.
