You'll see that Channel 16 High is 27.605Mhz with the nearest UK frequency being Channel 1 at 27.60125MHz.
Unless your Jumbo has a TX shift you'll be off frequency, so at best you'll sound off but heard by local operators due to the wide width most CB radio filtering offers. You'll be hard pushed to be heard further afield though. Your channel numbering will be also be totally off due to the U.S. F.C.C. frequency allocation with skips, jumps and what was known as 'Alpha' channels, (old Radio Control frequencies).
Surprised there's still Ham Jumbo's out there that haven't had the UK mod.
Anyway, hope that helps.
All the best, Victor

You cant get the UK40 on a Jumbo you cannot tune to the off frequency to get on to them, intact when those radios where first built the never had FM fitted it was a after thought to help sell them in countries that also used FM (not uk FM by the way)Â TBH they are not a very good radio for FM there more suited for AM /SSB really
@ Victor the ones that have had a UK 40 bord arnt that good anyway plus to do it properly it takes lot of work to get get reasonably good too ,a mate of has 4,a mk1 with just AM/SSB 40 CHANNEL only ,2 with AM/FM/SSB with Lo Mid Hi Channels which actually is really Mid/ Hi /Hi Hi one fitted with the Muppets board and its useless when on it and a mk3 which has AM/FM/SSB and has a 4 bands of 40 channels and none are really good on FM .

Think I'll sell it back to the guy lol, I had an option of president McKinley MK1, a TriStar 777 or a ham Concorde2 and went for the jumbo

I seem to remember you could get to some of the UK40 frequencies, but not all, and it was a real faff to do it. So most never really bothered back in the day. Just stuck with our US AM channels.

Such a shame because otherwise they're a pretty good rig. I hope you get to a successful conclusion.
As for conversion....
People often confused 'FM' (Frequency Modulation) with the term 'FM' meaning the UK 27/81 frequencies. As such the conversions were often never properly implemented with the appropriate shift to the UK frequency. So despite utilising FM modulation and a FM discriminator on some of the models, (I don't know many that would recognise a Foster-Seeley discriminator circuit), you would still be off-frequency and so sound quieter to the other station.
The result of this is that people would add 'power-mics' to the rig to overcome this and due to the varicap method of providing FM modulation begin to over-deviate the signal and again you'd actually sound quieter! (Or worse and be totally off frequency!)
You're right Martin in that it does take a fair bit of work to have it done properly.
I'm with Jeff (53 Perfect) on his conclusion.Â
As a straight rig as it came off the drawing board it's still a good setup. UK CB frequencies are barely utilised in most of the UK nowadays anyway so hardly worth transmitting on. FM/AM & SSB on the old standard frequencies are used worldwide, (and even the 'mid-band' or straight US/Euro frequencies are legal in the UK now), making it still a useable rig. In fact, when the summer propogation is up they make for a good DXing rig and you don't have to worry about the weird UK frequency shifts!Â
I hope you get sorted Hugh, but it'd be a shame to miss this summer's skip with that Jumbo for the sake of underutilised UK frequencies.
There's an old Engineering expression that comes to mind....
"Don't blame the hammer."
All the best, Victor

You would have been able to get the UK40 if you had chosen the TriStar 777 because they have a proper course and fine clarifier which you could adjust to get the UK40, me personally love the old school radios.

Because it has a corse and fine clarifier ie: if you put the the radio on 33 hi (on a 777 will be ch73will explain later why) and put it on FM turn the corse part of the clarifier only to the left to about just over a 1/4 turn which by rights will bring you in line with UKFM40 well enough to be understood and use them ,the reason why its 73 is because the channel readout on Ham International radios are like that, its easier to show someone how to do it than explain TBHÂ there is alot of other makes of old multimodes can do it . I'm not being rude or anything I dont how long you have been around CB radio so forgive me in what I'm going to say ,I think you best bet is to one of the newer legal AM/FM/SSB radios because it's a lot less agro ie: something like the new Mc Kinley, it's just a bit of advise mate
