Southern Area and South Coast SSB Net

Hello all
Welcome to my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB net held on the 28-04-2022

My location was Ashdown Forest, but not Radio Corner. This was taken up by a big old Artic lorry so I moved down the road a bit.
The weather was mild, cloudy with a breeze.
Set up for the night was the Anytone AT-6666 and the Solarcon A99 on a 3m pole.

Before I started the net, I did get a 1st for me, a quick contact to Andy 9TC02 in Newfoundland, Canada (No amp. No power mic)

Hello & greetings

Here is my report (for YOU my favourite reader) of the SSB net held on the 5-05-2022.

The net is on USB channel 39 mid-block or 27.395 MHz and hopes to start at 20:00 hrs BST.

Before I move on, a question. 
With solar cycle 25 rapidly approaching, should the net move to a new frequency or take a year or 2 off? My thinking is that 27.395 is the next frequency used if 27.385 is going to be full of US dx.

My location for the night was a different car park on Ashdown Forest (JOo1BB12), where I did get to see a beautiful sun set.
The equipment used was the Anytone AT-6666, standard mic and a Solarcon A99 home base antenna.

Now with the noise, cross mode, pulses and strange tones showing as a S5 on my radio, I knew it was going to be a difficult night.
So thank you all who called in and stuck with us under the horrible horrible conditions.

Hello all

Welcome to my report for the SSB net held on Thursday 19th of May 2022.

The net is held on channel 39 mid-block Upper Sideband or 27.395MHz USB and starts around 20:00.

My location was Radio Corner Ashdown Forest  and the set up I used was a Anytone AT-6666 and a Solarcon A99. No amps No power mics.

The weather conditions were warm with a gentle breeze, unlike the radio conditions where there was plenty of snap, crackle, pop, pulses and strange tones all mixed in with other SSB, AM, FM transmissions.

Welcome to my report for the SSB net held on Thursday 26-05-2022

The net at the moment can be found in all the noise on FCC channel 39 USB or
27.395MHz USB and it starts as close to 20:00 as is possible.

My working conditions were the Anytone AT-6666 and a Solarcon A99 antenna (No amp No power mic) all from Ashdown Forest East Sussex.

The weather was cloudy, windy with a spot of rain in the air and the band conditions were horrible with tones, beeps and cross mode voices all being heard.

Welcome to my report of the Southern Area and South Coast Net held on Thursday 2rd of June 2022.

The net is, for the moment, on channel 39 Mid-block USB or 27.395 MHz USB and is scheduled to start at 20:00 hours or 8 o'clock.

My location was not Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest, it was Devils Dyke just outside of Brighton. 

My working conditions where a CRT SS 6900, a base mic with AM/SSB, compression HI/LOW and HAM/CB switches and the Solarcon A99 antenna.

The band conditions were again noisy with 13 & 21 division being heard along with the normal cross mode voices, snap, crackle, bacon frying, beep, tones and pop sounds.

Hearing all this skip/noise I didn't expect much from the net so was surprised to have 17 call ins. So on with the list

As you know I got carried away elsewhere.My god mate what a cracking signal you had and could have been parked behind me.(I did take a gander).Both keep up the good work as always and I’ll be on duty pronto next week.

Hi Tom

I think you did the right thing calling late after most of the noise had died down.

The combined stations of Roz and myself did seem to work well. We got a lot of complements on the signal & audio. It goes to show you don't always need an Amp. 
Sadly for some, Roz and I do plan on more "Ray & Roz shows" in the future

As I said on the night, I would have been chasing the DX and filling my log book up with new divisions, If I didn't have to chair the net.

Hello and welcome to my report for the net held on 9th of June 2022.

The net started just after 8 o'clock and when I turned the radio on, I was like previous weeks greeted by NOISE .

My location for the night was the 2nd highest spot in Kent according to various interweb search engines, so it was going to be interesting to see how it was going to work for me.

The weather was mild, cloudy, some wind with a hint of rain in the air. This didn't stop me from putting up the Solarcon A99 on a 10 foot pole and using the Anytone AT-6666 with no amp and no power mic.

At the beginning of the night the skip was mad, and most people called in and got in the net log before going off to fill there logs books (something I would have done if I wasn't in the chair). Surprisingly the net did start just after 8 o'clock   even with all the voices on AM, USB and LSB. (I can feel a move in frequency coming on due to the noise).

My location was a cloudy , hot and sticky Radio Corner in Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex.

My set was the Anytone AT-6666 and the Solarcon A99. Making me a portable station using no amp & no power mic.

Hello all and welcome

Now if you read my PMR reviews, you will be aware that I give them a 2nd title.

So here goes.
Here is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB net 

or

"The Ugly, the Bad and the Good". You can skip to the end why or read the report.

The net was held on Thursday 23rd of June 2022 and can be found on 27.395 USB or channel 39 USB mid-block and is scheduled to start at 20.00 or 8 o'clock UK time

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in East Sussex.

Equipment used was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amps, no power mic and about 40 watts when I whistle) and the Solarcon A99 antenna

The weather was amazing with sunshine, some clouds blue skies, a cool breeze with a hazy horizon. The temperature at the beginning of the net was 21 degrees C and when I packed up it was up to 13 degrees C after it dropping down to 10 degrees mid net.

Hello & welcome

Here is my slightly late report for the Southern Area & South Coast UK net held on the 07/07/2022

The net can be found on channel 39 USB on the FCC allocation or 27.395 MHz upper sideband
I turned the radio at about 8 o'clockish and was hit with a load of noise, beeps, burps, farts, tones, whistles and languages I didn't understand. Which got me thinking that it was going to be a local county net.

Still the weather could lift my spirits, blue sky, bright sun , no wind.

Err. . .No

I was hot and sweaty sitting in the mobile communications vehicle.

My location for the night was Radio Corner Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex. Ashdown Forest or 100 Aker Wood, is the home of Winne the Pooh and friends created by A A Milne.

My set up was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic) putting out about 40 watts when I whistle and a Solarcon A99 on a 3 meter pole.

The weather was warm and breezy with some cloud in the sky, which didn't stop people coming out to take photographs.

Well I just had to reply to you comments made on air about working you way across America with your beam.

I was just amazed that my guessedamated 40 watts got out so far.

That’s what keeps us coming back for more,Not knowing who or where that next reply to our CQ DX will come from.
Wait until the next solar cycle really kicks in Ray,Those 40 watts will work the world mate.

Hello and greetings

Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB net held on the 04/08/2022 and was on channel 39 FCC USB (mid-block) or 27.395MHz USB and starts about 20:00ish

My location was a mild and cloudy Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. 

As the the sunset went down the night sky was filled with a bright half moon   

The set up was the Anytone AT-6666 and the Solarcon A99 (no amp, no power mic and about 40 watts peak)

Conditions through the night were at times challenging with 13 division on FM giving me a radio 5 signal 7 and then they were replaced by our friends in 1 division on SSB.

BEFORE I START, THE GOSSIP OF THE NET ENDING IS FALSE.


Here is my report for the net held on the 11/08/2022

If you are new and have not read any previous posts, the net is on channel 39 FCC USB or channel 39 mid-block USB or 27.395 MHz USB and is scheduled to start at 20.00 Hrs or 8 o'clock BST or 19.00 UTC.

My location for the night was a bright Radio Corner, due to the full moon , Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex.

The weather was hot & sticky with a cooling gentle breeze if I had both doors open on my mobile shack. The temperature at the beginning of the net was 23.5 degrees C and at the end it was down to a very comfortable 15 degrees C

My set up for the night, was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp and no power mic) and the the Solarcon A99. The power from the radio was a maximum 40 watts when i whistle into the mic.


The radio conditions for the night were as flat as a flat thing that has been rolled over by a road roller (I think you get the idea)
