I served the first 8 years of my Army career in Communications (31K10 RATELO & Field Wire Specialist). Developed a huge interest in the CB when a high school friend stopped by with one in his truck. I started talking with local base stations and became hooked. Ran CB's for several years until I married. Not going to say that it was her fault I quit using them, but...
So now, 20 years later, I am back on the air with a new handle (Shade Tree Joe), and ready to foster an interest in 2 way communications in my grandsons.
