| Ive just been up into the loft and found a large run of coax but I’m not sure if it suitable. I would post an image but I don’t think this board allows you to .
To describe it there are no markings the usual black outer casing but thicker, it has a thin plastic braid over the copper braid with a plastic core and central wire bordered by five holes in a circle.
Any ideas if I can use this please

| That sounds very much like coax for a satellite dish or cable tv possibly which will be 75 Ohm and not the required 50 Ohm. I have always been advised to get the best coax my budget will allow and if you look into line loss you will see why. Here is a handy calculator: https://www.qsl.net/co8tw/Coax_Calculator.htm | |

| Thank you That is a big help but also a disappointment as I wont be able to use the cable and there is a lot of it. I guess its got to go in the bin, a shame

| You should keep it, it could be used on another project such as extending a router or television or satellite installation possibly, you never know when it may come in handy if you have room in the shed that is. | |

| I have had satellite installed in several houses but never had coax in the loft. You can host an image then show us what you have. Load it onto imguru or a site like that then link it in a post on here. | |

| Thank you all I was ferreting up in the loft yesterday and came across this large run on coax .The radio is one in the garage and re set up with a painted green 1/2 wave pole and a pin inverted V wire antenna.
One question , can you make a 3 element beam wire antenna ?
Many thanks | |

| Yes, you need a rigid structure to support the wire with people using anything from bamboo cane to PVC or fibreglass tubes. I had a 4 element aluminium Yagi up and I had to reinforce all the elements with something I picked up in the local hardware store as the wind sent them all directions and that was from one of the so-called quality brands too I seem to remember. | |
