Subject: 4 element quad for portable Sun Aug 09, 2020 8:29 am
I decided that it was time to try out a quad for portable use. After a few designs on MMANA , I figured that a 4 ele would be good.
I had to order up some fibreglass spreaders as I could not find anything that looked good to use.
I used 2.5mm heavy duty wire, 10mm fibreglass spreaders and 1.5inch boom. It all went together steadily over the last 4 weeks a bit at a time with lots of double checking.
I must admit that it is a bit bigger than I thought it would be with a boom length of 5.8mtrs.
I hope you like the photos.

HI Mark.
I dont remember the Moonrakers, only the name. Thanks for the comments. I ran a test and it is 1mhz low at the moment. This wont be a problem, just go back into the MMANA design and move some numbers around. Here it is packed away, all done in 30 mins from the push up mast to stowed. It is going to fit into the car very easily.

Well Andy, if I was impressed before I'm even more impressed now!
30 minutes and packed from a Goliath beam down to those easily transported parts
Gives me a hankering to dabble with antennas again now......but I know for a fact it won't be as impressive as this beast!
Cheers for sharing your work, really enjoyable stuff
All the best, Victor

Hi Alan
IF the Buxton bash happens next year, try and get down to it. I know it is a bit far, we could always pick you up from the Railway Station.
You will then get to play with it as much as you want to, with a good Amp inline of course. But you will have to take up wrestling ( fully clothed but no other rules ) with Trevor for the best seat.

That is really very kind of you, I havent been to Buxton for many years I used to date a gym instructress when she was at college in Buxton, my mum still lives in Marple I could try to work a visit in for around the same time all being well.
Unfortunately, things have been a little strained between us, she insisted i get my dog castrated(Not bloody likely) if I wanted to go back as he once chased a bitch in heat(surpise surprise), but she quite often just forgets about these things and I have plenty of time to work on her.
I havent been to an eyeball for years, I used to go to the Fiveways Hotel in Hazel Grove and the local CB club sometimes did a night at the Brookfield Hotel in Stockport all back in the early to mid eighties and I was a regular up at Werneth Lowe back then too. (I still have the seven foot firestick I used to use up there it got you out for miles)

I havent tried it out fully yet. 11mtr has been low and over the winter ive been stuck indoors with the covid lockdown/furlough scheme.
When the bands start to improve I shall give it a good weekend test, as always will be tested with 1 kw for a short period. It just has to be done.
