Subject: New member - vintage rigs in use? Mon May 13, 2024 6:18 pm
Hi,
I'm new to Charlie Tango, but had a CB back in the day. LOL
It was an AM 120 channel Tristar 727, and I thoght I was so cool driving around in Slough with a large whip on the back of my white Volvo 145 estate.
Now using a sommerkamp ts-788dx but I still have the Tristar 727.
Anyone using any vintage rigs these days?
Andy.

My main radio is a Kenwood TS440S which is older enough but I have a huge love for older CB radio's and always have my early MK2 Cobra 148GTL-DX and Mustang 2000 setup. No modern plastic radio's with USB sockets in my shack.

Somewhere packed away in the roof space is my old Stalker XX. I really liked using that.

Hi,
I'll be keeping my Stalker XX At various times long ago I had a Superstar (360?), Cobra 148 GTL DX and a Stalker IV.
I had 934 equipment too (a Reftec I think) but that went whilst the band was still in use.
The Stalker XX was the keeper.

Still got and use my Harrier CBX with added mids. Recently purchased a second one. Still got my springer antenna but use my sirio antenna now when mobile and a V5000 for field day use.

I had the same SWR meter as shown in the picture, my parents bought it for me as a birthday gift when I was still at school. Unfortunately it was all sold when I left the CB hobby in the 1990's to get married. But I have returned to the hobby after all those years and have now bought new and some older equipment form junk sales.

Back in the early eighties I had a Stag 357, didn’t really understand upper and lower sideband but wish I never got rid , ended up swapping it for two forty channel rigs 🥴

Here in the states, I think we might have a group trying to revive ch16 lsb. I heard stories of 23ch radio days , 16LSB was the hot spot. I have tried putting into service some of my old rigs (Royce) but with alot of the big units on ch6 its just too much (QRM) . I have often thought of installing a VFO to the 23ch and have that ol rig feeling, where it might be able to be used/heard. What I do enjoy seeing, is old rigs from all over the globe , what some of used to have to work with, and built stories to tell today. The FTDX10 is fun to work, some of the older Kenwood units , ( I still have a TS450s), But there was something? wasn't there? running some of the older gear... 2CT351 Colorado.

I am still sometimes using my old (1981) Ham international Jumbo. Love the feel of the vintage rigs, especially the ones with which we share fond memories.
