Hi All, Andy from Southampton England. Started out on American import AM / SSB CB in late 70's, then some FM kit early 80s. Did RAE and got amateur licence, restricted to VHF / UHF back then. For HF you had to do morse code. So kept going on 11m instead. Now returning to hobby after a near-lifetime break of about 35 years, to hopefully experience 11m (and the other bands) as the sunspot cycle builds to a max. So, can I have a callsign please? Looking forwards to some interesting QSOs, 73 Andy

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Charlie Tango DX.
You should be issued with a CT callsign fairly soon.
If you've let your old RAE licence lapse there is a way to try and get an amateur licence reinstated if you wished. Take a look at the following link :-
Essex Ham - reinstate amateur radio licence
A friend of mine did it and now also has HF privilages in line with current regulations. Might be worth a shot if that interests you.
All the best, Victor

Hello Andy, welcome to the forum.
I am delighted to allocate you 26-CT-3779 may you have good luck with it.
As Victor has already advised you. You can reactivate your Amateur license and will have the full privileges of HF now. If you contact Ofcom they'll do that for you.
73's Gary.

Thankyou Victor, Gary and John. Nice shiny new callsign! I should have been clearer in my original post, in that I have already gone the Ofcom route and got the amateur license re-instated. This was after accidentally buying a Chinese VHF UHF hand held. The Essex ham article that you linked was the one I followed some months back, and for anyone returning, it was an easier process than I thought it would be. Ofcom were really helpful. So recently got on HF amateur bands for first time. Scanning around 11m on my new kit during the recent openings, and then reading a bit on CT site, I'm completely impressed with how 11m has evolved, with regular nets and a dx calling channel, etc.. So will have some fun with it all. It was a rabble in the '80s! All the best, Andy.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the feedback, it's always appreciated.
Not everyone knows that they can get Amateur licences reinstated, (my friend certainly didn't and was so happy at being able to do so), hence the pointer. Being an open forum someone else may also read this and gain benefit from it, so I try and spread the word as much as possible.
Glad you got sorted and great of you to point out how helpful Ofcom were, they're not the 'bad boys' in charge that everyone thinks they are
CB certainly has got better over the years or maybe shall we say more 'refined'. There were always better operators around, callsigns, clubs, courteous DXers and great early morning nets that ran smoothly as the so called 'rabble' were often in their pits With the European alignment we also gained the traditional mid-band frequencies for legal use as well as AM and SSB use which all adds to the whole radio experience.
Today we see more people coming together in pursuit of radio happiness and places like Charlie Tango spring forth often embracing all aspects of radio interest and radio users. Damn good thing it is too!
Enjoy your CT callsign Andy.
All the best, Victor
