Subject: What HF home base setup are you using? Thu Jun 27, 2019 8:32 pm
Thought it would be nice to to get the ball rolling on the all new CT forum.
What HF set up are you using at the moment?
I'm using very simple station consisting of a ICOM IC 706mk2g, LDG Z-11 auto-ATU, Creative speaker (from a surround system) and a vertical off centre fed dipole for 20m to 10m including 11m of course! 30 amp Power supply under the desk (where it should be unless you are running a test bench).
Not the most sophisticated set up but enjoy the zen like minimism of it
Share your station and what is it you really like about it?

Ive had one of those, nice radio. However, my favourite HF set is the very modest Yaesu FT450D.
Looks great, works as well as many much more expensive sets and holds its value

Here's my base station. It feeds my signal to either an Imax 2000, 80m Delta Loop, 80m Dipole or GAP Titan multi-band vertical.

most speakers are better than the built in ones, i only use them behringers because i have them, they was only £50 if i remember right ive had them years.
you could use any speakers that plug into the rig matt.

Well I'm using:
Radios TX: Maxon 1000 (CB CEPT)
Radios RX: Alinco DX-R8 SDRplay RSPduo Â
Tuners: MFJ-959C MFJ-956
Antenna: Long wire
All RX based only except for the Maxon CB rig.
Am considering adding and Alinco DX-SR9 transceiver to my humble set-up.
I note that few responders have only CT (Charlie Tango) call signs so am I right in assuming you are using your kit for CB SSB and/or free banding in the 26/27 MHz range? Â I also suspect that those with amateur licenses may also be using their normal HF kit for CB-SSB and also free banding?
If so (to both parties) how are you staying out of trouble and do OFCOM just turn a blind eye as long as you are not causing interference, mindful of language and sensitive topics/subjects and keeping within max tx power limits and not lighting up the sky with additional linear amps/burners? Â

I have two baufengs and a 70cm crt7u, which is used on 446 [pmr] Â the local ham group stopped using the 70cm repeater, so now its dx from the car, its all radio you have some that stick to there ham radio and nothing else, and you will have cb users that stick to the cb, And you will have some that mix and match it both ham and cb , I do not mind what they use and good on them, its all radio I have a open mind its all radio, and rules get bent by most and its all radio, Â enjoy as I have heard there trying to get rid of 2m, I do not use 2m but what would be better to have is repeaters, for 11m 10m they have 11m repeaters in the rest of the Eu, so are we not good enough to have 11m repeaters in the uk, life is full and its all radio just enjoy

OFCOM do not have the budget or staff to do much investigation work these days. Just try to get them to investigate serious RFI and you will understand. We have a wideband "clicker" in this town, some sort of spark or discharge from the railway we deduce. Strong enough to flatten RX front ends and make AGC pump. Two advanced amateurs complained providing logs & recorded evidence, we received replies that were written by desk-jockeys with no knowledge of the subject. Two of them in fact who contradicted each other!
So I reckon, carry on as you were!

FT840 FT817nd Alinco DR-135 DX/UK FT51r and a plethera of other hand helds which need thining down to please the better half, only on a mag loop at the moment at this qth as had far more other things to do before thinking about what antenna to site but I think it will be the trusty HyEndFed multi band mkII as it always done me well when away in the camper and quite stealthy, for 2 and 70 it has to be the royal discone with the TX base loaded spike on the top, no gain on 2m but a bit on 70cm also gives the bonus of having a nice vhf/uhf RX antenna for days when the HF bands are quiet.

Too many radios (that's what she says anyway)!
The favorite of the moment is my Xiegu G90 SDR. Epic radio for the money 0-30Mhz and 20Watts out. After that it has to be a toss up between the IC7410 old school HF tx or the modern FT991. The 991 is dedicated to 2/70 and via a Spectrum transverter for 4m.
Current project radio is a Ham International Concorde II I picked up recently. Appears to have been untouched from new and the Tx wire was chopped in the mic connector by the PO so I am not sure whether it was used for tx previously? Cleaning it up at the moment and tweaking the alignment. All seems good bar tx audio distortion in SSB.
