Hi Mike,
Nice to hear someone from my neck of the woods for a change.
Do you know what type of setup you are after, what you will likley to be using it for and what you are expecting to hear? i.e. FM, USB DXing etc?
Also what type of antenna you would be able to setup? i.e large, external, hidden etc?

Graeme.

Hi Graeme. Where about are you from. My antenna will be going up on the gable end of my roof above the roof line as high as possible. Looking to do as much as possible. Going to do my foundation license too.

Jump straight in with a FT991A.

Hi Mike,
I'm near Dunfermline to give you an idea.
The FT991A suggested by Alan is a nice piece of kit, basically a shack in a box covering HF / VHF / UHF although I must admit there isn't much on VHF / UHF around here nowdays.
If you are concidering taking your foundation, you may want to wait a little and not splash the cash on something you might not use later.
Graeme.

Plus also if you pass your foundation or any of the Amateur radio licences you legally can't use Amateur radio equipment on CB bands ,even though yes we all know people have the Amateur equipment adjusted so it can do it but legally you stand a chance if cought you will loose you licence so if your bothered about that it will mean you will have to get a Amateur radio for Amateur use and a CB one for CB use.
