I had trouble with my antenna , you know SWR at just around one to five , so bought a Zetagi TM999 matcher , bobs your uncle now down to one to one. Happy days.

Matchers only lie to the radio so it thinks its a low SWR so it doesn't blow the outputs ,so infact your antenna is still at what it is without the matcher being in line, so basically you still have a problem with your antenna but 1.5 is pretty normal TBH the 1:1 SWR is a bit of a myth to actually achieve .

What you have done is matched the impedance of the radio to the antenna, presenting what looks like a perfect SWR, and allowing the radio to deliver full power to the load. If whatever was causing a poor SWR was a fault or poor match, it will still be there, and possibly hurting your efficiency.
Mind you, not sure whether you meant 1.5:1 or 5:1, as 1.5:1 is fine, and you won't see any difference in real terms between 1:1 and 1.5:1....all a true 1:1 means is perfect (resistive) 50 ohm impedance and no reactive component, which is hard to get unless you are building the antenna to do that in your environment.

Exacltly what I said but more long winded @OP I don't get what If you kinda know what I mean TBH , we have both exsplained to you the matcher is lying to your radios at some point if your SWR does actually go high you won't know because of the matcher and BANG no more radio outputs have blown, we are trying to save your radio and you money on repairs mate.

Not quite - you said "lie to the radio", I said "impedance match".
Anyway, I do apologise for daring to offer an opinion on your forum where you are clearly the only font of all knowledge.

I'm from London, and you in no way intended that as a joke.

No worries Alan mate but thanks ,too many boring people on this forum lately and people who don't want advise then cry when there radios blow up or set up doesn't work , I'm surprised there isn't a gardening and illness ailment section (like top band) on here if you get my meaning LOL
