After many years without, I now have one to pop in the shack.

Nice one Jeff. Is that a new unit? (Just don't remember seeing 'Dynamike' on the old cobras. )
Been hankering for a CB to adorn the radio shelf myself but don't like the modern units and the old stuff still goes for silly money!

It is used Victor, but not real old school radio. Think they are making/selling these with a retro look. Chinese made though UGH!. Traded it for a mike. Yes John, AM only.

My inquisitiveness got the better of me - they did remake an old Cobra and called it the 'Classic' didn't they?
Love how not only does the outside look like the radios of old, but the inside circuitry is pretty much faithfully reproduced too. Even down to a copy of the classic TC9109 PLL! (Plus easily manageable 'through-hole' components.)
Been digging around the old CB sites comparing schematics - sad old git I am
Great stuff Jeff. Perhaps I can buy an 'old', 'new' radio after all!
(Wouldn't cost much more than some 40 year old dog of a radio some greedy basket is pushing on fleabay either!!)
Edit: Just saw your 'Chinese' manufactured comment Jeff, yet remember a lot of the old Cobras being actually manufactured in Korea.

Yes and Malaysia, Taiwan as well I think. I had one of the very first 148GTLDX radios, they called it the Mk1. Back in '81 or '82, of course with the Bremi 200 amp and silver rod. Later got an original Sigma 2.

Ha!
Yeah, remember a lot of the old rigs with the 'Made in Japan' sticker over the 'Taiwan ROC' stamping on the chassis. They weren't fooling anyone.
Either way Jeff it's a nice looking rig with some classic circuitry and I hope it serves you well.
I'd happily swap a mic for a CB rig any day.

Maybe not so Jeff, get your first contact on that little rig and you'll be well chuffed.
(I miss the clarity you used to get on AM often with further contacts than usually achieved on FM - but no bugger uses it over here, or not that I've heard in my locality anyway.)

I agree, Victor. AM is such a nice mode to listen to. The AM receive on my old Uniden boarded radios, sounds great to my ears. My favourites been my Stalker 9 and President Jack.

Just a bit John, used to love the night time AM nets and my first skip experience was on AM too. I was gobsmacked at chatting to the USA like they were down the road at first thinking it was a wind up from one of the air base servicemen! Joined a club after that, got a few QSL cards through their PO box and the rest is history.
Always lusted after your Stalker John, old Uniden radios do make me drool!

Hi Victor, brings back memories from forty years ago... yes 40... been a Ham as well since then but only came back to both about two to three years ago, bit of a gap ha-ha.. and how things have changed... DMR, Fusion... all digital... was quite a surprise. I had a very similar original rig back then, sold almost everything in early eighties for now looking back a pittance, should have kept them as expensive now. Using a SS9900 filtered and moded now occasionally. Not certain how you will get on with just AM as where I am, South Coast even the standard FM is few and far between, never heard anyone on AM, be interesting to know if others are still using AM anywhere.
Cheers
Mal
