Subject: Hurrah first contact!! Fri May 14, 2021 3:02 pm
Hi all, after the problems i had with my antenna & changing it to the Gainmaster, started getting to hear contacts. Listened to UK to get the feel of things but all i could hear was foul language, not sure i want to get involved in that so started to monitor Europe & could hear Spain, France, Portugal & what sounded like America but too faint to be sure. Listened to a strong French signal, waited for a break in the transmission & took the plunge. Gave my CT call sign & bu**er me i got a reply!! Started talking to a French guy called Michael & told him he was my first contact & he reported back that my signal was very strong & he was very pleased to talk to me. After exchanging locations we both signed off. Can't tell you how chuffed i am to actually be able to send & receive, i know it sounds daft but i'm over the moon. Just couldn't wait to tell someone. Cheers guys, Bob.

Congratulations. I felt the same last year when suddenly I was talking to someone in UK over 800km away. It blew me away to think that was happening over just a CB radio!

Wahay! Well done Bob!
Thrilled to bits for you mate!
Well, wasn't that feeling alone worth all the hoo-hah getting set up with your antenna and everything.
First of many I hope, the propagation has been coming in nicely.
All the best, Victor

As said not daft at all. I was on radio way back in the 70's then had a 26 year break from it. When i came back to radio again not that long ago and talked for the first time i felt the same like my first ever contact. Strangely enough when i passed my ham licence and made my first contact i got the same buzz. Hope conditions are good again today for you keep it up.

well done Bob, wait until the the likes of Thailand and USA start coming in that will get you buzzing i see you are close to the Coast you can work outside the EU very easily when conditions allow just get your antenna close to saltwater if you can. Anyway Enjoy the radio and keep away from the muppet channel and you will be fine.

Thanks Kilomike, sounds good to me! As to getting close to saltwater, can't get much closer, North Sea's about 200 yards away & thankfully behind some massive sea defences. Even so, it still manages to creep over at times! Take it easy all. Bob

wow sounds like your in a perfect spot. If i was you, i would study for my foundation license and get on the HF bands.
There is a Chap on youtube who lives by the coast and he gets into oz with 10watts 0n 20m, now that would really give you a good feeling.
