Hi Paul
Some basic questions to narrow down what could be wrong
When you say no contacts, do you mean you can hear people but no one is hearing you?
What band or frequency are you on, UKFM or CEPT FM, AM or SSB?
What time of day and week day are you listening?
Do you have high background/interference noise?
Being in Sutton, I'm surprised that you can't hear the channel 35 group who are on most nights or people on the 19
I'm sure others, with more knowledge & experience then me, will be along to asks questions and help
Stick with it and don't get disheartened.
Good luck
