Subject: Hello to All. and CT call request (Issued) Sun Apr 17, 2022 8:36 pm
Hello Everyone. I started CB operating back in 1978 when still at School, my 1st radio was a Cobra 148 GTL DX (Mk 1) which is a radio I'm sure everyone here has heard off, if not owned. Great Radio, but I didn't realise just how special they were at that time.
I operated it as a homebase with a silver rod, totally oblivious to all the TV's in our block I was interfering with. After a couple weeks someone finally came round to complain, so after advise from the local cb radio emporium (Mad Monks) in Willenhall we walked away with a 10 meter pole to increase the antennas height another 30 feet. We were advised to get the rod above all their tv antennas, which just made the interference to local TV's increase in radius. It got a little crazy after that, and I ended making about 30 braid breakers for them to insert in-line between their tv coax and tv antenna sockets. Surprisingly that cured about 75% of the interference.
I had a 1/2 watt switch fitted to the back of the radio, which sort of cured the rest.
Anyway, I'd like to request a CT callsign please. And if I have any say I'd like to request 26CT9718 ? if not I'll be happy with whatever is issued.

Sorry about the vote down Stevie, I was wondering what the + and - was for. Can it be undone ?

Hi Dave,
Welcome to Charlie Tango.
The old Cobra 148 was definitely a classic and just like most things we never knew ahead of time. (I've junked motorcycles in the past that are now flipping classics! Part of getting 'old' really. )
Those little innocuous +/- symbols on postings could be clearer, I've popped a couple of '+'s to equal it out a bit. (They can't be undone and we can't vote for ourselves! )
Your profile is all filled in ready to go for call sign allocation so keep an eye on this posting for when you are issued.
All the best, Victor

Thanks for the reply Victor, I actually thought it would close the white space in a post and the + would enlarge the post again. I shall be more careful in the future
