Subject: Mick Lake New member. Callsign request (Issued) Mon Sep 19, 2022 4:46 pm
Hi All. I am requesting a callsign please. My name is Mick Lake and my QTH is Dagenham Essex. I have just got back on to CB. I was on CB at the start about 50 years ago but came off due to not being happy with some of the people abusing it. I have always been interested in Amateur radio and been a short wave listener since I was about ten years old. I have always been interested in repairing radio and tv's and worked on radar at Kelvin Hughes. I am now retired and repair old radios as a hobby, (valve and transistor) I Intend to take the radio amateur exam soon. I would have taken it years ago but was put off by the morse code part which is now no longer a part of the exam. It has just been made possible to go straight to the full licence exam in January which I would like to do, but I may just do the Foundation first.

Hi Mick,
My apologies but it seems we have already interacted on the forum but I never gave an official welcome to you here. (I know I was otherwise disposed for a while and missed many new members.)
I shall rectify that now so please accept my warm welcome.
It also seems that you may have been overlooked as regards call sign allocation but be reassured that I have messaged Gary our admin in charge of call signs to ensure you get issued as soon as possible.
Thanks for hanging in there.
All the best, Victor

Hi Victor, Thanks for the welcome and contacting Gary. Gary has contacted me and apologised saying for some reason I got overlooked. Never mind these things happen! He is going to sort it out tomorrow. I'm glad that's all it was and it will be worth the wait.
Al the very best, Mick

No worries there Mick and glad you contacted us regards this.
Our Gary does a tremendous job and has issued literally thousands of call signs over the years so we'll forgive him the odd oversight.
Oh, just for your info regards the interaction we had with my 160m experiments.....I hooked my 66 foot doublet as a top-hat or Marconi antenna affair tonight with a 30 foot counterpoise slung out of the window. Glad to say it's working rather well for a short antenna and my piddly 10 Watts is being heard much further across continental Europe. Happy days!
All the very best to you, Victor

As regards Gary, no worries. I can see he works hard for the forum. It's not an easy task as I know because I used to run the web site for another club I used to belong to. It can eat a lot into you spare time. Just remember. 'The man who never made a mistake, never made anything'.
Regarding your 160m experiments. you've wetted my apatite to have a go. It's nice to see you are making progress. I know I am only receiving at the moment, but i am going to try to see what I can do to replace the S6 of noise with something more worth listening to.
It's been nice to have another chat with you. Hope you have a good night.
Very best wishes, Mick
