Hello all,

I'm fresh so go easy.

I have an elderly but recently serviced President McKinley radio. It's the 70s/80s model with the silver facia and what I believe is an identical unit to the old President Jack.

It has FM/AM/SSB as well as a Hi/Lo band switch.

Can anybody help with what frequencies this transmits on (relative to the channel numbers) as my Google-Foo isn't strong enough to work this out.

Thanks,
Ben

Thank you very much both. Yes that's the radio in question, I just needed an SSB radio (for testing something) so I picked it up from a very nice gent for experimentation.

Is there a way to swap one band (I gather one is CEPT) so possibly the other one to UK 40? I'm not desperate to do it but I guess there's no easy hack?

Hope that makes sense,
Ben

Hi Ben,

There is this post that discusses moding on this radio.

Hope this is of some help.

Something to think about, I'm usually a 2 Metres and up guy but having UK 40 on a box might be useful

I'm in a flat to antenna options are limited but I've ordered a balan and might stick an interred vee in the loft.

Currently got a mag mount on a "biscuit tin" but nothing heard but that was wishful thinking.

I'm reviewing an SWR meter so needed "something" with SSB just for experimenting.

Are these old transceivers worth maintaining?
