Set up my brand-new, president mckinley  today. Could not be happier. Was listening  to the States  and lots of other foreign  stations.just need to put my aerial  up on the roof as its currently  in its temporary  place only 7feet off the ground.

yep i have a 1/2 wave silver rod venom hi gain and it seems to work ok

Had one 28 odd years ago and it worked brilliant, so decided to start there. Lol. Saying that was looking at other antennas the othere day,it's a money pit. But I am enjoying being back on,although ssb is new to me

There awesome. I was a bit worried about the button based menu, but it's so intuitive, took me about 20 minutes to work it all out. The only thing I had to look up in the book was the crazy way you adjust the rf gain mic gain and rf power. Is yours expanded. Mine is uk leagle at present.

Yea more power and the extra bands. Ain't gonna do it till the warranty runs out.i might actually get around to doing my foundation exam. But not sure if I can be bothered.

i think you can get books on how to go about the exam and you can do it online now a few years ago you had to do it in a classroom

Yea, I've done a couple of mock exams online and if they were actually proper exams would of passed. But it's different actually doing it. I think there is a free corse online you can do.

you have to use a webcam showing round the room so the examiner can see that there is nobody else in the room helping you

For DX it doesn't matter that your antenna is only a few feet off the ground, height is more important for locals and horizontal antennas.

We will see . I have a ham friend who has spent the last 40 yrs trying to get me to take it. It was a lot harder I think back in the day of a and b license and m code. And yea I need it up higher to get further locally,there are quite a few stations near me but sadly the word muppet was invented for at least 30% of them. There are some really nice ones . But if my setup is at its maximum it would be better.

as i was saying a couple of weeks ago there is a guy near me who comes on channel and every other word he is effing and jeffing when women are on to it makes no difference to him
