Hi all. Just after a bit of advice and knowledge please.
I have a president grant 2,which has been opened up with a switch on the back to alter the frequency I think it goes from 25mhz to 30mhz now.
I also have a booster a RM KL203P. Also got a big 6.5ft mag nount aerial on my car roof.
My question is what is the output on fm, USB and am using the booster and is it legal?
Also what's the best UK calling channel to use throughout the 25mhz to 30mhz what's the best channel.
Many thanks Chris 163ct181

The transceiver is pretty much at the limits for legal UK usage, add to that your amplifier, and you are in the red, just use a little discretion as to when you use the amp.
Am not too sure of your local calling channel, you could try the European frequency of 27555. Other than that, you could try the “Muppets” frequencies, such as channel 19. Have a quick flick around and see what is out there.

Also, you have some pretty big hills/mountains in North Wales, find a high spot and put out a shout.

I'm in Llanrwst but go to Llandudno nearly everyday. Let me know what channel you go on and what sort of times and I'll keep an ear out for you.

Sorry but the 11m band is silent where i live so i never use it. The 2 Lincoln's i have are sat on a shelf and can't use 11 on my hf sets. Will have a listen out over the weekend see if i hear you on 555.

Give a shout out on 19. There are a few out that way, depends on times. I should be up that way myself now but I've been ill for two weeks and unfortunately stuck at home.
Llysfaen is a good spot

Hi Chris,
With your set-up, you can get yourself up on a hill virtually every night of the week and make some cracking contacts on SSB bud!!!
Cheers
Simon.

Late to the show here, but, switch is possibly (if someone else had fitted) would be to flick between standard norms, then once flicked open up all channels. The other mod for this unit was open cut white cable and separate so not to short, move jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 to open A-J Band, The power if radio opened SSB would be tweaked between 12-15w, 15 being the max, AM-FM can be tweaked to max 10 but usually wound back to about 6-8w. I would get hold of a power meter to check. Also input into the KL203 is 10w max if memory correct, so if running 12-15w you are going to have a heat problem... I cant remember how to do the calculations as only just coming back to radio but if memory serves me correct 7w input to the KL should give you approx 70-80w FM and just over 100w AM - ref your question if legal , AM/FM frequencies max power is 4w - SSB / DSB 12w..... Calling Channel on 11m 19 on D-E-F very quite, try Euro band F
