Hi new boy here, I am back from the 80s, retired now, and back on air with my new CB but its not as active as it was. Hope to learn some new stuff and make new friends out there. Looking for advice on something different and help with a better system

Hi Bernie,
Welcome to Charlie Tango.
Yep, it's all a bit different nowadays with operators being much further apart than they used to be. (The days of making contacts with a basic rig and mag mount on a biscuit tin are long gone! )
SSB or Sideband CB use was legalised/harmonised with Europe some years back and seems to be the common mode of operation along with homebase antennas or setting up mobile on high ground. With the increase in solar activity we've been experiencing the DX opportunities are great also.
A lot of us here returned back to the airwaves after decades away and some (including myself) went on to take our Ham licence to fulfil our radio activity ambitions. It's not for everyone (can become expensive!) but with the Foundation exam system and being able to sit it online the opportunities are much easier than in the past.
There's a lot of helpful people here at Charlie Tango so if you have any questions just fire away on the forum.
Oh, and if you want a call sign just make an official request or let me know here and either myself or Gary (call sign admins) will get you one allocated.
All the best, Victor
CT Admin.

Hi Vic THANKS for the welcome, I am thinking about getting a new CRT SS6900N I know it may be illegal and need advice on that but think it may be a good starting point for listening to see what is about. btw I never had a DV27 on a biscuit tin

Hi The 6900 is the one in that range i would go for some of the others have too many menu buttons for this old timer lol. Like Victor i returned to radio after nearly 3 decades and found it very dead round my way so went for my Ham ticket and never looked back.

Surprisingly, not much has changed since the '80s. Radio is still radio. Enjoy your retirement and get on the air.
