Geography was never one of my strong points at school, but it seems to be improving greatly with the aid of GridTracker whilst using JTDX. I got a new country last night that I am ashamed to admit I had never heard of, Curaçao is apparently an island country between the Americas and Europe. Has anyone else come across this very small island?

Hi Mark,
One of the things that struck me with Amateur Radio and playing with digimodes is that we often know far less about the world than we think we do!
I've been amazed at discovering places I'd never heard of with Geography never being my best school subject either and completely enthralled to get some of them in the logbook. (May gain many more thanks to recent events. )
Very well done with the contact there, I've yet to gain a Caribbean contact but will keep trying.
Looking forward to reading of others awestruck with this big old ball of rock we inhabit and some interesting radio contact locations too.

Radio has certainly improved my knowledge too, by both looking up my contacts QTHs and others people have posted on this forum, because either I was unsure of their region or have never heard of them. It's helped with my language skills as well, I didn't take any foreign ones at an exam level at school.
Well done with Curaçao. I do have in my log, but not many entries. Only very recently started pronouncing it correctly though, again learned through radio.
Glad you're enjoying it Mark, I am sure you will work many new places in the future.

The main problem with Caribbean contacts is most of them are around very early 1-2am. I am the forum's resident insomniac, so am often awake at these hours.

Almost all of mine have been made between midday and evening, but that is mostly on 10m. Give that band a go and get some sleep my friend
