Hi, I think my previous attempt to post here fell down the back of the sofa or something.
I'm Bob in Holgate Road York, I stumbled across a lively chat yesterday on PMR446 ch8 and CBUK ch40, where there was a lot of ham vocabulary, NATO phonetics, Q codes, call signs and stuff. I'm about ready to book a Foundation amateur radio exam as I'm passing mocks via RSGB study materials, GM6DX 'Gettin Tae Grips' online course and have booked Essex Ham course starting this weekend.
I have Motorola Talkabout PMR446s, couple of CBs (Albrecht AE6110 bas station and President Randy III handset), couple of Baofeng UV-5RIIIs, and a Retevis Ailunce HD-1 DMR handset, and soldered up yesterday an MMVDVM Pi-Star tiny RPi Zero based personal hotspot in the hope of using that with the HD-1 DMR set.

Welcome to Charlie Tango Bob.
PMR446 CH8 and FMUK CH40 can sometimes be quite busy around York, but it isn't an everyday thing. Much of CB use seems to be a blend of CB and Ham speech these days. It is what it is.
Good luck with your studies for the Foundation Exam. You sound as though you are in a similar position to me. I'm now waiting for a date to sit mine.
At least you will have had a response to your message this time. I'm not so far from you, so keep an ear open for Al 26TD133 on the Wolds or occasionally using the handle Crusty Juggler.
