Good evening everyone hope your all well? I have just brought a pni escort hp62 handheld and I'm wondering if someone has one and could give me some advice please? For some reason it won't change from low power to high I have followed YouTube videos and no luck. It tells me to press the PTT and ASQ together while turning it on, but I've had no luck at all. Please if there is anyone out there that could help me I would be very grateful 🥲

No nothing like that at all it just says on YouTube to press the PTT and ASQ button together while I turn it on but unfortunately it isn't turning to high power

Out of curiosity how are you measuring the output of the radio?
Quite often the advertised four watts will not be achievable particularly if the power supply is a bit below par. Are you powering it from a cars 12 volt DC socket?
Best 73 Gary.

Hi Gary no I'm just using a handheld cb antenna as I don't have a car. I'm not using anything to measure the output.

I'm thinking, if the screen is like the thunderpole tx, that the power is showing as "lo" Rather than a test of power.
Other than a software or hardware fault, the only thing I can think of is not pressing the two buttons properly at the same time or pressing the wrong ones.
I've done it myself with these double press/ switch on at the same time

Simonthewizard's video shows the two button press/power on approach for switching from low to high power for this radio :-
If you're anything like me you'll have "fat finger" syndrome where such digit contortions are difficult at best! Worth trying again just in case you didn't successfully push all the buttons properly.
Failing that the only other thing I can think of is that in the video he is using a proper power supply unit and there may be some 'under-voltage' or battery detection system that won't allow high power to be selected if there isn't enough 'juice' available.
I hope you get sorted and do let us know if you're successful with it Wayne.

That video shows PTT and ASQ. The other shows Down and ASQ.

Hi Nige,
Just saw your video link from PNI and they do clearly show the down button being pressed. (?????)
Seems that Wayne has tried both so the only thing I could think of was the power supply issue but then the PNI video does look likes it's running off batteries. Hopefully there isn't anything wrong with his radio and he gets it sorted out.
My apologies for not reading through the whole posting but it was a quick throw in of help on my behalf before shooting off to hospital (yet again) on the same day.

Just a thought but are the batteries full. Could the radio be seeing a lower battery and stopping the high power. Like i said it was just a thought.

Same as what I thought Alan, I know some of these radios won't go to high power if there is a power supply issue or even a SWR problem. (Fold-back protection circuitry might save the finals but can leave you clueless.)

Hi victor sorry I’ve only just seen this. I have spoken to pni and as mine is the German version unfortunately it is made so it can’t change from high to low, but is running on 4w on low power so everything is fine thanks again for your help Wayne
