Never used an FT-1000MP. Looking at the the specs, except for a band scope, it looks to have a lot of the core functionality of a FT-991A, but instead of having most of it menus you'll have a button or knob for each function... it sure has a lot of them. If you like twiddling whilst your operating I am sure you'll love using it.
