Hi All,
I hope you all had a good Easter break and hopefully got to enjoy some radio.
One of my grandchildren recently remarked that the radio hobby was quite a strange thing and after a few explanations I can see why she thought as much.
So here's my take on this 'strange' hobby in a mostly car theme. (Lord knows why, I don't drive nor have ever driven. )
Enjoy, take it as light hearted humour (i.e. don't get miffed) oh and obviously copyright of the respective people silly enough to upload them to the internet.

ESSB ('Enhanced' Single Side Band')

This Frequency is in use!

Yeah, I know I've completely scr*wed up the gallery view now haven't I?
Let's just hope it raises a titter or two and if you can think of anything else why not add your own below.
All the best, Victor

Hey Vic, I think you're grandaughter is very astute! We are most definitely a quirky bunch
We had a busy Easter getting the garden sorted out for this summer. I'll be getting around to HF antenna's very soon.
I hope you had a really great Easter buddy and you and Teresa are well.
Best 73 Gary.

Love it Happy Easter Victor and all. Yes, got a bit of radio time, but not as much as I'd have liked.
I'll add a couple...
You're in the noise!
Antennas - Height is might
I photograph quirky things for another pastime so I could probably post many more, but won't, otherwise the gallery is just going to get stupid lol. These are two of mine.
Thanks for a nice laugh before bed Victor

Hello Victor,
I like it.
The ones that made me laugh the most were: 'this frequency is in use' and 'CQ contest.'

Hi Gary,
Yes, I think my granddaughter has got us 'weird' radio lot figured out! Glad to hear you and Amanda had a great Easter break as well as enjoying some seasonal gardening.
Absolutely spot on and there was me thinking I had a weird sense of humour! Brilliant pictures by yourself and raised a chuckle with myself and Teresa so thanks for posting in kind.
Thought I'd share a chuckle or two and I know I'd make a terrible comedian as I was fair old wetting myself finding the pictures fitting the radio theme.
Thanks to everyone that replied, it's always much appreciated and I hope that it raised a laugh or two for others.
All the best, Victor

While we're on the subject of automobiles, I'm wondering if I can use my 5mtr festival flagpole as an antenna hmm...

Yes you can providing that it's fibreglass and not carbon fibre or indeed anything else conductive.

@Gary @Pewee
It's fibreglass and has a ground stake. May try it after we return from a mini festival near Doncaster weekend after next.
In the meantime, I've ordered 10m of coax with PL259s and some SO239s to rig up a multi band end fed sloper. UNUN or BALUN for a 52ft random wire? Still learning about HF stuff.
Gotta do something until my garden cabin is repaired.

9:1 unun and the wire will work fine easy ish to make if you can solder I'll post pic up later at work at the mo. I use my full size g5rv on every band untill I can get a dx commander vertical, then get shot of all the random bits of wire every where, a pole home made for 2m/70cm works real well best swr on them bands I ever had

Solder? I worked for many years in BT telephone exchanges, I must have soldered 1000s of connections. When I left in 1994, I 'liberated' several spools of leaded solder which I still have!
Look forward to the pic.
