| Subject: Is FM CB still alive? Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:57 pm | |
| Hi folks I was very active in CB 1980 to 2000. Then I moved to Australia. We are considering moving back to the UK. Rural south west Scotland to be precise. When I shut down for the last time in December 1999 FM CB was dying its last gasp. There were 3 of us left on air over an area that once had thousands. Is FM CB still used? Anywhere? Whats changed since 25 years ago? cheers Jack Axle Jack | |

| Αt UK Band & EU Band, down to Corfu Greece from time to time i do hear from UK using FM mode, sometimes weather allow me to chat using FM, so is still alive ... i do not know if the area you will move will have local contacts but i think some time will let you DX some where far if will use an outdoor antenna
EDIT ... Some evenings at EU Band i do hear some UK stations using AM mode trying to reach USA

| Hi Jack. UK 27/81 FM channels in my area (Gloucestershire) is pretty much dead. Only comes alive when skip is running. The few remaining people I used to talk to back in teh '80s have moved to using SSB on the mid block EU band and the freeband.
Some other areas of the UK do have a fair amount of UK FM users, that's evident from both watching utube videos and also when short skip is running and I can hear them. Hopefully CT members from around south west Scotland can let you know if there's activity in that area.

| Cheers. I'm going to be visiting the Moffat/Lockerbie area next week. And will be around Dumfries and Carlisle. I started on AM. Post 11/81 I had AM and FM side by side. Got into SSB. Got my ham ticket in 93. I always had most fun on FM CB. Ham was very interesting and I met some nice people. But CB was always a full on laugh. I cant say the same about CB in Australia. Its still very much in use but its very aggressive and abusive. | |
