i there I would like some info on a Alinco DX70. Its pushing low wattage on all stations. I believe it does 100 watts. ts doing 40watts on FM, 30watts on AM. and 40-50watts SSB. Is there any way that it can be put back to 100watts. Many thanks for your help. CT3036.

I haven't used that radio, but a Google brought up the following. Firstly the H/L switch on the front:
ham.stackexchange.com/questions/9461/alinco-dx70-th-at-10w

Secondly, an internal slide switch (3rd posting down):
www.transmission1.net/viewtopic.php?t=56969

Hopefully that's of some use to you.

Have you asked the repair guy how long it will take? Is he waiting on parts? Tbh 9 months is a long time to have something for repair if it's not fixed yet. I'd ask for it back personally, and look at sending it elsewhere if it needs sorting. Perhaps he can't fix it and is playing for time, who knows, but I'd want it back a lot sooner myself, heck, it might just need a tweak, but I'm no expert.

Sorry to say but if you are asking that question i would say no.
There is a lot of things you could turn and the radio might end up way off.
You would need some trimming tools a good dummy load as well as other kit.

I think that there are two possibilities here.

1, You've turned down the output power in the menu options. How to adjust this will be in your user manual.

2, You have a fault on the radio itself there's a few possibilities not least the final transistors but could be anywhere back though the PA circuit.

If it's not the power output menu it's going to need looking at by a radio tech. You can't start fiddling around inside without the appropriate testing equipment you can do more harm than good.

Good luck best 73 Gary.

i bought the radio ages ago and it was like this when bought. it also had a problem with tx you keyed the mic and all lights went out. I found arepair chap , he fixed the problem and then told me that it was on low power , what do you want to do, so i asked him to put it back to factory specs. this is where it stayed with him for 9 months. Ive e-mailed him several times and he keeped saying it was in a gueue and I am 2 radios away. Still waiting

I'd tell him I wanted the radio returned even if it's unrepaired, he's had his chances and is too slow and you can't wait any longer. Can you knock on his door? Radio returned or monetary equivalent if he wants to keep it longer, I wouldn't stand for the delay personally, it's your radio, not his, so you have to make it clear he can't keep it longer whatever his excuse. What about the two in front, how long have their owners been waiting? He's taking the mick IMHO, if he can't do the job in a reasonable time he doesn't get the work as far as I'm concerned and I wouldn't wait any longer (I wouldn't have waited this long myself).

I used to repair radios myself some decades ago, and I'd fix it there and then while people watched, they'd bring me the radio and I'd work my magic then they'd have it back within minutes usually without delay (with looks of horror when I removed bits and replaced them), it was a good earner at the time.

the other 2 as far as I know hes still got them. Oh by the way I had to pay £60 up front Just for him to look at it. I asked him for a receipt when I passed it over to one of his friends and he said to me if you dont trust us dont bother. I dont know where the repair place is, you just hand the radio to his partner and then passes it over to the repair chap. I relly did not what to but I really wanted it repaired

Sorry to hear that "Oh by the way I had to pay £60 up front Just for him to look at it. I asked him for a receipt when I passed it over to one of his friends and he said to me if you dont trust us dont bother.", for me that's a big red flag right there from this lot I'm afraid, I'd have told him to do one right there and then tbh, you don't pay up front for repairs from reputable companies, only after it's fixed.

There are professional repairers that would've fixed it by now and not charged 'till it was done, it might cost more but you'd have it back by now. I don't want to worry you but you could've just given it away never to be seen again, I hope this isn't the case but from what you said you could've made a big mistake trusting these folks, I wouldn't have. Is the any way you can get them to return the radio? I'd be hopping mad with the answers you're getting.

I had a message today (monday) This is what he set on a email :- It is the wattage problem.

The components you need are not available, and at this point are never going to be available.

This is not a popular radio so there are no spare parts on the scrap market to purchase the parts that you need.

If the parts were available the cost, I expect would be significant, PA boards with good transistors for other radios can sell for anything up to £200, and I don’t feel the radio is worth that much; it’s a sellers’ market.

if you would like a replacement Alinco which has just come onto the market, I have seen one on Gum Tree, let me know and I find it and send you a link.

Good morning William,

I'm with Alan here this all sounds very dodgy to me.

I've seen radios resurrected from all manner of sorry states including PCB track repairs after burnouts and SMT soldering that the human eye can barely see!! There is really nothing that can't be fixed if you're willing to throw the money at it!

I would tell him that you want the immediate return of your radio without any further delays.

When you have it back have a look on Facebook for James "The Shack" in Cornwall he's one of the best techs in the country.

I sincerely hope this guy still has your radio to return but his comments to you leave me doubting it. Why would you need his help to sort another one out on Gumtree? You can do that yourself!

Best of luck and best 73

Gary.
