I could hear some real faint chatter on UK channel 19 this morning. Must keep an eye on that!

I call out on the uk 19 regularly. I’ve had 1 or 2 replies, but it’s not often I hear actual conversations.
There’s often some faint muttering, but if they hear me, they are too distant for me to hear back.

Hi Paul,
I'm in your neck of the woods and usually monitor 19 through the day. (Usually tied up with my Ham forays but still keep an ear out.)
I've caught a couple of people in the area so far and it'd be good if I catch you on air sometime.

There’s definitely people still using the uk40 and when there’s some skip about it’s surprising just what you can do on 4watts and a wet piece of string!🤩

Hello All,
I still hear plenty of action on ch19 from my dx perch. Cities/large towns such as Manchester, Sheffield, Stoke, Liverpool, Sheffield and their surrounding areas all have active stations.
I often hear tipper drivers talking to the shovel drivers in the local quarries on the UK40. There are still quite a few tippers with springer antennas on them, usually with half the antenna missing. Lol. Sometimes I will pick up farmers and Green-Laners on there, too.
There are a great bunch of lads in the Staffordshire area that regularly use ch24 for an informal natter.
I still hear stations scattered around the UK40 and Mid-Band (mainly on fm) rag-chewing. Nothing like the old days, but there is still activity there.
73s John.

I don't really bother that much with UK40 mainly because I'm limited in terms of what antennas I can put up. I have a horizontal in my bedroom which is fine for DX SSB/AM but locally on FM UK40 nobody can hear me and most are running power on verticals although the occasional American station will pop up on UK40 but I've never managed to work any on FM.

Hi Victor, I’ll keep having a shout out on 19, and maybe we will chat sometime. I’m out by the A1, near the dreaded Blackcat roundabout. I have seen a couple of decent antennas up around the area, but of course quite likely using ssb etc.

Hi Paul,
So far I've only managed a 'staggering' distance of about 4 miles on my little 4W Jopix, but then I am only running a knocked together inverted-v antenna in my loft.
(Picks up all of Europe though on mid-band when there's a lift on! )
If you're out at the Black Cat then that's got to be about 10 miles from me at Elstow so chances may be slim judging by experience with it so far. Apart from the odd operator and passing A6 traffic I've picked up about as much local activity as I do on the 2m/70cm repeaters round here.
Still fun to have it on monitoring the CB bands though buried amongst my Ham gear and a bit of a thrill when I have contacted someone on the old UK FM.
(I do have SSB gear though when I want to join in with the "Hola-Hola-Coca-Cola" fun. )
If you do somehow come crashing through the airwaves I'll definitely give you a shout back.
