Subject: 40 Years of Legal UK CB - Discussion Sun Mar 21, 2021 10:29 pm
I've created this thread to discuss ideas for events to celebrate 40 years of legal UK CB radio.
The 40th anniversary of legal UK CB radio is on 2nd November 2021.
As in previous years, a nationwide net will take place on channel 40 (27.99125) on the evening of 2nd November but as this is a special anniversary I feel that we could have a range of events across the weeks/months leading up to the big day.
There is already a discussion on Facebook about the possibility of a mass convoy of mobile stations around the M25. It has also been suggested that special nets could take place over the summer holidays when people have more time to play radio, the days are longer and the weather is better.
So if you have any ideas please comment on this thread...

40 years!?! Where did all that time go?
Be great to see some ideas coming to fruition such as the mass M25 convoy suggestion.
Here's hoping we keep on track with the Covid situation and those that land up holidaying in the UK this year take a CB radio with them. Be great to hear the UK CB airwaves light up again!

I took CB with me last year holidaying in the UK. I took a 12m telescopic pole and used cable ties to attach it to a gatepost (not to be left up if it's windy :-), and 20m of coax. I got to know some locals while I was away who were on every night.

Wow 40 years have just passed me by and it only seems like i was a young 14 year old with my first legal set a cobra 21x with the obligotory dv27 biscuit tin set up…untill i discovered a 7ft firestick and groundplane kit in the loft worked much better and that was the start of an obsession for more power and further away contacts The next few years i realised the fm 40 muppet bands where just too crowded so decided to go illegal again and bought a ham concorde and a gp antenna and that was when the obsession became quite bad and many more ssb radios came along one replacing the last one… Dont get me wrong the fm 40 legals where a great place to meet people and i met some lads who used to live in our road whom id known before they moved and we lost touch so when we met on the radio in 1981 it was fantastic and we stayed in touch for years afterwards and i still have freinds now who ive know since the days on the old fm 40 muppet bands.. Would be great to be involved in some sort of group or convoy to celebrate the anniversary of this special day and if there is anything going on local to me (stockton on tees) let me know and i will defo make time for it

Unbelievable it's been that long. I still remember getting my first radio as a 12yo in 81 when it came legal, and have been on and off CB ever since, going years with no radio sometimes....and then the HAM addiction took off too, which got worse when I moved out here.
I used to come in from school, jump on the radio and try and find a channel which was free. Good times.

I still remember the day my older brothers came home late one night in 1974 with the CB hidden from sight!! we had so much fun back then...
TBH I couldn't wait once it was announced that CB was going to be made legal even if it was only FM and limited CB 27/81
