Brilliant stuff there Jeff and a huge thanks for the link to VK3FS Andrew's site. Well written and already helping with further understanding. radio - It's radio Jim but not as we know it..... - Page 2 1f44d

It seems that for repeater work I have to key up or 'kerchunk' the repeater first with the selected talk group then key up again to actually transmit on that group, ('user activated' mode to connect the repeater). I only discovered that by finding some info on another repeater that links to my local repeater in question. Feels awful 'kerchunking' after being annoyed with the 'get' that does it to the local analogue ones! It's always on for 'local' traffic so still surprised I didn't get a response to radio check calls.

Done for the day but looking forward to trying again tomorrow.
Think a hotspot is on the cards so that I don't hog repeater resources in my area but should be able to have a play in the mean time.

Thanks again mate, much appreciated.

Yeah, only for user activated TGs though.  Don’t think of it as kerchunking, just instructing the repeater to do something prior to use.

Victor there is a way to check if you are hitting the repeater
Go to http://www.dmr-uk.net/monitor.php?range=25 and there is a list of all repeater traffic. If you are hitting the repeater you will show with DMR ID and callsign.
Happy programming

Hi Nigel,

Cheers for the info. radio - It's radio Jim but not as we know it..... - Page 2 1f44d

I had found the DMR live feed from the repeater and finally got somewhere in as far as knowing I can access it with the info showing talkgroups and timeslots. I think I'm all there now after finally getting parrot echo to work, (NOT a private call to get a response from a repeater but a group! Wink )

Hopefully I'll get to have a play this weekend and maybe a bit of a write up in case it helps anyone else.

(I'm already shopping for battery eliminators and external mic but after shopping for stands I may well build my own!)

Thanks again for your time.

All the best,
Victor

What you have to remember is DMR was Motorola's baby and was never intended for amateur use. It was designed by computer programmers for commercial use only.
But then the amateurs found it and so did the other radio manufacturers. but nobody redesigned it other than making an only slightly less confusing CPS.
So instead of having your amateur hat on whilst programming, you need to swap to a Computer programming hat.

Firstly I would like to wish all the members a successful and safe 2022, I have had a DMR transceiver now for around 18 months here in Australia it’s a little bit of a hit & miss affair these days. When the platform was first launched every man and his dog was on air but I think for many the novelty wore off pretty quick as programming code plugs etc is way beyond most me included. I was lucky when I purchased mine the reseller had programmed all the general ones so I had a lot of fun early on these days it’s rare to hear many on and as I said you just have to be lucky unless of course you monitor various frequencies for long periods something I couldn’t be bothered doing. I haven’t even turned on my Retevis for some time but seeing this has prompted me to maybe have another listen anyway once again all the best for the year ahead.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your input. Back again after another piece of handheld technology let me down because my phone tried to update whilst not having enough storage!! Losing it's USB connectivity, wouldn't Bluetooth or share across the WiFi meant not a lot of fun in trying to back up anything before factory resetting. Took me hours! Isn't technology marvelous?! Very Happy

Wayne, Alan, same here Lads!
First time utilising DMR and getting past acronyms as well as general bull before even grasping the basics of the technology. Wink

Nigel, thanks again mate.
Definitely a different kettle of fish but I now believe I'm generally there. Really appreciate your input and hope to catch you on air one of these days. radio - It's radio Jim but not as we know it..... - Page 2 1f44d

Hi Steve, a Happy New Year to you also. Always good to catch our antipodean cousins. Smile
Yeah, a lot of the info I was finding is about 3 or 4 years old and of course things change all the time. I'm hoping that the awesome Hams around the world working to tie all the platforms together with projects such as DV Scotland, FreeStar, MMDVM etc. bring it back into popularity. Also thinking that the 'promiscuous' mode on my radio will allow me to monitor many talkgroups at once to catch any action out there. I'm all for any technology that can tie radio enthusiasts together.
Who knows, I may even catch you on your Retevis. radio - It's radio Jim but not as we know it..... - Page 2 1f44d

Thanks very much to you all. Charlie Tango is an awesome place thanks to all it's members.

All the very best,
Victor

Pretty much the same here in Perth mate.  I use the Anytone for normal analogue and CB too, but the DMR side hasn’t been used in over a year.

I only bothered again when Vic posted he had a radio.
