Hi all , bought a grant 2 and it has been expanded by knights to export mode , normal power am/fm is 4 w and SSB is 12 w but what is the power output in export mode? I’ve been told it’s much higher but I have no power meter so can’t test. Regards Brian 26CT3236.

Grant 2 Premium is supposed to be higher than Grant 2. I'd not be concerned unless you're intending to run it with a linear amplifier as even if it's double it's barely an extra S point on the meter for the other end.

Not intending to run an amp but that really doesn’t answer my question.

Knights are the probably the best people to answer your question if they did the modification.

As far as I'm aware with the Mk1 & 2 there is no increase to output power at all. With the premium it goes up.
As Connor has said the increase in power would make very little difference anyway. You should buy a reasonable SWR/Power meter then you can measure it yourself.

They’re still listed on the President main site so it’s availability I’m sure.

Unfortunately they are discontinued Brian. They have been replaced by the President Mckinley. (Nearest equivalent)
It's a shame really because I really like my Grant 2.

I always thought the Grant two remained 4w 4w 12 watt power but the expansion broadened the frqs from 25.615 to 30.105 mhz AM / FM SSB and freqs ending in 0 as well as 5

Bear in mind both those resources where posted while the G2 was still in Mk1 form. The Mk2 should be the same but the premium will be different.

I'll do more digging Gary, I would be pleased to find a way to boost the power of my Mk2 but at the mo it does 4, 4 and about 11 on SSB.

In export mode the Grant 2 PREMIUM will do about 20w output so be careful not to run it into an amplifier as you will probably blow the amp.
You can drop the output by way of an internal adjustment.
The original Grant 2 (Non-Premium) only sees a slight increase in output power when put into export.

Don't bother. Whilst increasing the power on SSB by even 12 watts may sound a lot it isn't. Even if you double the power doubling the power is a 3dB gain and as a S point is 3dB on a CB meter that only gives you a single S point at the other end. If you want a worthwhile gain you need to be looking at 10dB so you want an amp.

I have just purchased a very fresh but used President Grant 2 premium and would like to (perhaps) expand it I’ve trawled the internet for info, So I have learned how to expand the radio, and that it will retain the UK 40, great! My question is, if I join the white bridge cable with a simple SPST switch and connect 3 wires to the jumper pins with a SPDT switch, I should, in theory, be able to return the radio to its factory EU norms ? Agree ? As previously mentioned, the expansion of the radio increases the power thus not letting me (in theory) run a linear, if I were to use the 2 switches, I can return it to legal power and in theory run a linear ?
My other thought was that if the radio was expanded, if there was a way to turn the power back to legal spec while it was still in export configuration, it would enable one to just run a linear all the time without the faff of wiring in switches, but I cannot find any info on this.
Any help/advice much appreciated.
Mark.

Brilliant thanks, going to temporarily mod it on a switch for the time being (drill no holes etc) and see how i get on with standard export power. Then if i feel i need to run a linear in export, ill turn down the pots in export mode.

Brilliant, thanks. I will be expanding it myself so will have to measure. Anyone any idea what type of current draw these have in standard form and expanded ? 73, Mark.

Exported my radio myself and tuned down the power output to about 7w SSB to let me run it into my linear. works well. Not much room for fine adjustment on the pot. Seemed to be 20w, 12w or 7 w no in between. But works well and have made some good contacts.
