| Hello C T members
Looking for some advice. I have a yaesu HF/ 50 MHz 450D transceiver. And all the bands are opened up . And was looking for some help on the choice of antenna. Every help will be greatly appreciated. I was thinking going for the . Yaesu ATAS-120A Automatic HF VHF UHF Antenna LAMCO at the price of £340- £ 380.
Or am I going to throw money away if their is something else just as good out their that I can use. And it must be a mobile antenna. Many thanks

He's wanting a mobile antenna. The ATAS120 is OK but it's a mediocre performer on HF. You also need a good RF ground with it otherwise you'll have issues with it trying to tune. A Little Tarheel II or the Diamond 330 screwdriver antenna, both used with a 5ft or 6ft whip would be much better for HF. That 5ft whip would give you 2 S points over the ATAS however it would mean you do sacrifice the ability to auto-tune the antenna from the radio without buying an additional screwdriver antenna controller such as the Turbotuner. | |
