Hi Guys, I am just starting up in CB again after a bit of a break (Mid 80's - Early 90's) I'm 50, in a wheelchair (Not that that really matters lol) I'm in Swindon in South West Uk & kind of nervous to key that mic again after such a long time. My interest was piqued again when I was watching youtube as I am a keen bushcrafter, Survivalist & Prepper & I saw one video that suggested getting a Ham Radio handheld, or at the very least a CB in case SHTF, comunication with Telephones/Mobiles goes down, that kind of thing. That got me thinking about when I was a kid, I had a CB wired up to my wheelchair. At the moment I only have a Midland Alan 42 but MAY also upgrade to a home base or a more substantial wheelchair based setup if I get back into the hobby like I once was back in '80s/90's.

Hello Wayne70, welcome to the forum,
As already stated, I just need you to pop your name in your profile please. I very much suspect it's Wayne but I have seen differing ones in the past.
73's Gary.

Welcome to the Forum Wayne, if you do decide to upgrade you should be thinking of a rig with SSB as well as FM/AM. Lots more fun and distance to be had. Good to have you here buddy.

So far I have Baofeng UV-5R+Plus (Not very impressed) Midland Alan 42 DS (Again not very impressed AT THE MOMENT) I am however waiting for a whip (For CB) & connectors (CB & scanner) to be delivered in the next few days so I can "HOPEFULLY" at least get some kind of signal. I'm thinking maybe turn my Wheelchair into a Mobile communications device unit LOL. If it works, it work. If it doesn't at least I had fun trying to figure it out. I am a tad disheartened that the Baofeng UV-5R+Plus just doesn't seem to be as good as all the Hype I see on Youtube about it & they have no problem recieving all kinds of signals indoors & out. So far I have only heard 1 broadcast on the Baofeng UV-5R+Plus & absolutely nothing on the Midland Alan 42 DS. I know handy-talkies aren't known for distance Modulations BUT, IRONICALLY, I got them to make me get out more & now we are in a socially distanced World Wide Lockdown so, Plan B is a base station.
