Well it's nearly time to order a Lw10 10 long wire, are they OK, seem to be having second thoughts now don't want to dig deeper into my pockets at the moment for a vertical, I have 35 plus feet down the garden that's why I chose a long wire

A 10 metre long wire with a 9.1 unun is what i use. Works well i think a lot better than the £140 vertical hf multi-band i bought at first. Mine is at a slope unun it at around 8ft and the other end is around 18/20ft keeping everybody happy (but it might grow lol). Mine is plugged into a MFJ-993b tuner but i think you bagged a tuner so all good to go when you get your callsign at the beginning of February

Yep got the radio and tuner, did notice when setting up the SO239, won't tighten on the tuner, good job I have a spare in the draw, my son can do that for me, will stick with the Lw10 it's going to be 18ft and run it down to about 8, the icom is doing unusual things on the silver rod, which sometimes it doesn't tune up, never mind only have to use it for a couple of weeks hopefully...

Just a quick question Alan the unun is going on just below the gutter probably about 20 ft, and dropping down to reach the pole at the bottom of garden the pole is only about 8ft does that sound like yours

If you're up for it, a longwire antenna is one of the easiest to make. Length of wire, and then a few wraps of hookup wire around a torroid, in a box, with an earth/counterpoise terminal, antenna terminal, and SO239, and you're done.
Probably twenty quid of parts, rather than over a ton.
Always good to make your own wire antenna...you'll learn heaps.
The video below is probably one of the better ones, and the instructions from the site referenced are linked below that. I have built one for portable use, though swapped to an EFHW a while back.
You could also do a EFHW instead of a long wire, although you'd need to build a shortened and loaded one to fit in 35' of garden, and it's a little more complicated as it needs tuning.

Yeah, get that out of the way first mate. Sorry, thought I'd read you recently passed. Must be going senile in my old age!
Just hate seeing people waste money and miss a learning opportunity.

i`m looking to buy another longwire instead of the 1:49 with 30 meter wire that i have now. think i`m gonna try the HF20A, only 20 meters with 2*1,5 meter extra. not that long, but working for 80 to 6 meters.
