Can a silver rod be modified to use on 70cm/2m, for TX it's sitting here not doing a great deal, just using it for RX on 70cm..

A 2m/70cm is a collinear? 2 aerials in one. You could make a 2m out of a short bit of it just google it. I mad a 2m tx/rx aerial from some 3/8 copper brake pipe and a short length of architrave/door frame to fix the 2 halves to worked perfect and the swr was spot on as well.
