Getting a bit confused, does the rg58, plug fit the r8x mini cable...

Maybe or maybe not , rg58 has a outside diameter of around 4mm and mini 8 is around 7mm , best to get the correct pl259 plug for the coax you intend to fit them to 

Rg58 coax maybe a bit slack using a 7mm mini8 pl259, best to have a nice tight fit so the outer braid makes good contact

If it does, it's a crap plug for RG58. Very Happy 

You want a near perfect fit so you get a good connection on the braid.  These days, having seen the issues caused by false economy, I only use Amphenol plugs.  They (As I'm sure, do others) do plugs for each specific type of co-ax that needs them, and given you only need a couple, it is money well spent.

I like crimp, but if you don't have the proper tools, soldering works equally well.
