On my 15th birthday in December 1981 I got my first cb. It was a Commtron CB40F and I had a DV27 on a biscuit tin in the loft. Chatted up loads of girls with that setup

Nice topic to read or remember some old stuff ... Had pair of eurosonic es2000 just before 2000 when i was in UK & was in use when visiting weekend cottages because mobiles did not had such much free talk time, with that ones could speak enough when was at woods away from the other (was using the other handheld) ... still have one eurosonic, still works fine but the other is been lost ... now with pni 6500 & a sirio boomerang 27A (just installed today) at Corfu Greece ... regards

Now mine was a MaxCom 6E CB27/81 FM only and a WattPole antenna. I think that's what the antenna was called anyway! It was basically a loaded quarter wave mobile whip mounted on a ground-plane with a bracket making it suitable as a homebase antenna.
I remember there being all sorts of rumours floating around about that antenna one of which was if one mounted it upside down it would work better. As in mount it with the mobile whip pointing down and the groundplane pointing up to the sky!
I remember it working quite well for locals and stations a bit further away. I have some lovely memories of me and my late father getting up early on a Sunday morning to join one of the several nets that used to run. The one in this area used to be chaired by "DogStar" if I remember correctly.

A Ham Major that a mate taught me to add crystals to and a silver rod on a scaffold pole. Then my parents bought me a York 863 for my birthday when 27/81 came a couple of years later, with a DV27 they let me put on dads car.

Started out in late 1979 early 80 and used dads cobra 19x with the obligitory dv27 on the rear wing of his vauxhall viva. Totally loved being on the radio and got a cobra 21xfm Christmas 81 with another dv27 but always missed the am band so secretly bought a jaws mk2 and hid it under the floorboards only using it late at night so as not to be caught by the parents.. Upgraded the cobra to a midland 4001 a year later altho still in 27/81 fm and bought a used ham Concorde mk1 needing work and used that on a gp 27 untill I could afford a cobra 148 and at that point it was an addiction I couldn’t shake off.. Went on to own pretty much all sideband versions ov hygain cobra and ham international including a jumbo running into an avanti sigma 2 and a bremi brl200 linear.. Lost Count of all the radios I’ve owned over the years but im now looking to buy one of each that I’ve already owned over the years just as a collection thing along with the antennas of the period too.. Still got that addiction and there doesn’t seem to be any cure

I think mine was a CyberNet, my memory is a little fuzzy of back then but I did have a Rotel 220 as well as a 240. For an antenna I think it was a Silver Rod and then one with a bucket that I can't for the life of me remember the name of either lol. I have a few others like Midlands as well as a homebase station which was huge and caused nothing but problems for next doors TV.

I think mine was a Midland 3001 40 Channel AM rig and a wire antenna on a biscuit tin back in roughly 1980
