40 Years Of Legal UK CB Radio 02/11/2021

On Tuesday 2nd November 2021 we celebrate 40 years of legal CB radio in the UK

From 19:00 hours a nationwide net will take place on channel 40 UKFM (27.99125Mhz)

So dig out those old radios, echo chambers and burners and let's make this a night to remember!

That's one point of view however I would suggest that legal UK CB radio was a massive success. 

During the early 80's it was common to hear every single channel on the UK 40 full with stations, often multiple conversions at a time. Literally millions of people had CB radios. Sure, there were plenty of idiots, but for every idiot there were several good operators. 

As for the frequencies, it turned out to be a great choice. The upper part on 27mhz tends to have less noise, especially from the dreaded PLT which is mostly notched for 10m, the effects of which start in the UK40.

Choosing FM as the operating mode has also turned out to be a good choice. AM is simply too noisy to use for most people in this modern electronic world we live in. If AM is such a brilliant mode how come it is still rarely used despite being legalised in 2014?

In the main I think that legal CB radio in the UK has been great, the only thing they should have done is legalise SSB sooner.
