Subject: Tropospheric Ducting Forecast Dec.15th - Dec.21st 2021 Thu Dec 16, 2021 10:35 am
Hi All,
For those of a 'Very High Frequencies' persuasion it looks like there may be some interesting Tropo propagation in the days ahead.
https://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_eur.html
For those without a VHF interest....then why not?
Tropospheric Propagation can be quite interesting, not just for the SSB/FT8 fans but also in that you can sometimes open a FM repeater the other side of the country that you wouldn't normally expect!
I for one have my Leixen and Baofeng VHF/UHF sets programmed up with many more interesting repeaters than simply my local ones just in case...the prop lifts and I scan the bands to see what's out there.
You can even give your PMR activities a go and see how far you get.
Have fun and if anything, at least it might be another useful link.
All the best, Victor

Thanks for the heads-up. And yes, my walk home scanning through the PMR channels and few other frequencies I was picking a lot more voices than normal. I spoke to one local who asked if I had heard the french stations, which I hadn't as just switched on, but it sounds like it's been interesting on there the past hour or so.

Yeah, there was a bit of lift action going on today causing some issues with the GB3PI repeater near me.
No PMR activity this way but there usually isn't anyway, just hoped for something a little further afield.
2m SSB went wild for a while tonight hearing not only local stations but also as far north as Rochdale, (G4XKC), and South as far as Cornwall, (G4NBF). My FT290's paltry 2.5W and Halo antenna just isn't cutting the mustard though as I couldn't get back to any stations. Need bigger and better methinks.
All interesting and fun radio stuff though.
All the best, Victor

I wouldn't be at all surprised there Ray.
It seems this Tropo might carry on for a while in some shape or form so worth keeping an ear out.

accessing repeaters over 280 miles away yesterday making contacts all over the UK from the Hebrides down to Cornwall and all points in between. Not a squeak this morning.

Seems a little lift here in the south west at the moment. Walking the dog, listening to a music player's Wurzels tribute for the first part of the walk on pmr ch8, other stations now calling in from as far as north Birmingham, 65+ miles from, 75 to the Swindon music player.
Worth having a scan around now to see what other signals are floating around out there.
