Hi John,
Three people told you on air on SSB that you were 'off frequency'?
Doesn't sound right to me mate, how could they tell you as such if you were that far off frequency? Surely if you were that far off you wouldn't have heard them and they wouldn't have heard you! How were they measuring your frequency?.....with their own radio 'frequency' dials?
I'd say unless you've been inside the radio twiddling or bought the radio second hand where someone else twiddled it before you got it that this would be unlikely and even then you couldn't be that far off or the radio wouldn't work. (PLL circuitry, reference oscillator, etc.)
It wouldn't he the first time some locals had their rigs (especially older ones) hit by the golden screwdriver of the local ahem 'rig doctor' and all off frequency themselves. Plus how do they know the tone of your voice to specify as such on SSB?
I once had someone tell me I was 'off frequency' on the Ham bands after I put out a CQ call....made me laugh like hell! Surely they had just tuned to me?!?!? (No 'channels'!!)
They didn't mean your SSB modulation was hard to clarify by any chance? That may point to a problem especially if you have a power mic driving like mad but again highly unlikely. To give you some sanity I'd try the stock mic and maybe get a report from someone completely different....will save you some sheckles from having your rig checked over or heaven forbid purchasing a frequency counter.
Perhaps one of them is a 'rig doctor' and trying to drum up trade.....wouldn't be the first time.
I wish you the best with it all and please for your own satisfaction get a report from someone completely different.
All the best, Victor

Just a thought.. have you been playing with any of the menu settings? You can change how the clarifier is set to operate. It can be set to adjust only the receive, the transmit, or both. If you've got it set to receive only, then there might be your answer. Make sure menu item 'CLA' is set to 'rt' so that you adjust receive and transmit frequency together.

used to get that of a local breaker, and its off freq and very quiet. but to every one else i was good and better, so low power out side his qth. and was told of freq and quiet, but mate butted in were out side your qth. then he went off and it was a while before he came back on, and when he did it was all forgiving and he never done that again and we become good friends, he has passed over now just three of us now.

Dont agree with adjusting both tx and rx on the clarifier, you'll both be adjusting each other all day long, as soon as you adjust him to sound good you'll sound off to him again so he'll adjust, then he'll sound off to you again so you'll adust etc etc, just adjust RX so you can hear him, let him worry about adjusting how you sound to him, both do it once then.

You have a good point Darren, which I didn't really think about, well done for noting that.
Just be aware John that the rig's clarifier can be set three different ways and setting only the receive or transmit frequency with it could set you and another station out of kilter with each other.

Newbie answer.....It might need to warm up a bit, about 5 minutes, especially on SSB.

Glad you're sorted John. Nothing worse than some idiot placing that seed of doubt on your radio operations.
