Hi all, I'm new here and after about 30 years i'm back on cb radio i currently only have a basic CRT ONE which is ok for the car but i need something different for in the home .
I was thinking of a CRT SS 6900 N , I have seen some of these on ebay and wondered if these are any good or if not what people would recommend for a first proper radio for 10m/11m .
Thanks in advance, Craig.

Nice looking transceiver Craig, the Alinco DX-10 is a nice piece of kit also, its got 360 memories, excellent for storing 10m beacons

Hi Craig. Welcome. I bought a 6900 at the start of the year coming back to this after a significant amount of time similar to yourself. I have been very happy with it and had some great fun.

Hi cja272, I’ve also been using the 6900N for the past 6 months and what a great radio for the price,People do say that the Mic that comes with it can be a bit hit and miss when it comes to Audio modulation but I’ve been lucky with the one I have,as it seems ok.But what I did was get a K-po Dm 520 coffin style mic and I’ve been told it’s sounds more punchier on SSB,Which is what we’re looking for I suppose. One thing I would be careful about is spinning the channel selector fast as this over time starts to stop working correctly and just rotates while the channel stays the same.Hope you have great DX’s on your 6900N as conditions are on the way up. Cheers Tom. 26 CT 4029

Cja272,The Antron 99 is a great antenna you be reaching across Europe without any problems.I can’t remember if I mentioned this before but go slowly on the channel selector because over time they can start to stop working correctly and miss changing if your too heavy handed with it.Apart from that a great little radio and I’ve reached 3 Division Brazil on mine recently ( I’ll shut up before I can’t fit my head out the door.) *this* Works well for me too. Have had good reports using the stock mic with no foam.
I know many others like to change the mic completely for another for best results, but I think that as everyone's voices are a little different the stock mic does suit well some people. I make use of the up/down channel buttons on the mic a lot too.. I'd miss that functionality if I swapped out for a mic that didn't have them.

Great little radio the 6900N,Does exactly as it should and not too expensive either.Been using the latest version for 6 months now and it has its up and down points.Yes the microphone can be quiet on some and luckily mine just seems fine and I have the mic gain set at 50 with is not at max.I did buy a couple of other mics to try but keep going back to the stock mic because they didn’t seen any better just a bit more bass I’ve been told. One was a k-Po Dmc 110 p6 and the other was a standard K-po coffin style mic.But I’m a bit lazy and prefer the channel selection on the stock mic..lol They do get a bit hot with RF pwr at max on FM so I added a small 80mm 80mm pc fan and that keeps it cool,You could turn the output down I suppose.I’ve said it before when changing channels via the radio knob it pays to go easy and don’t just spin it like there’s no tomorrow as over time it stops working correctly and stops changing the channel altogether. Great radio and combined with a nicely tuned antenna your be DX’ing all over the world. The past week I’ve spoken to numerous 2 and 9 divisions,50 Moscow,116 Istanbul,3 Brazil,Spain,Bermuda, Antigua and all over Europe and on stock power too.Let’s see what this week brings. Fisrt thing I did when I recieved my 6900 was to remove the mic foam.
Also, I put some window tint over the screen and digits as they are way too bright. A shame there wasnt a dimmer. Good radio otherwise, but dont trust the internal swr meter. Programming the radio is easy BUT the crt program will not set the last two digits and will be set to 00. You'll have to go through every channel [muppet band] and use the clarifier to tune the 25 in. Its a crt program fault that they wont fix.
Did you but a brand new set ? I bought brand new for £140 since greedy people want £130 for a used on ebay!
Hope you enjoy the radio. 73's. 26-ct-4253 Cambridge.

Is the 6900 the same as the Anytone quad 5555 V6 we have in the USA? I have a Q5 V6, no mic issues. haven't opened the case to tinker as of yet.

Morning Savwafare10,The Anyone 6666 is more like the CRT 9900 and the Alinco Dx10 is almost identical to the 6900N except the mic is plugged In on the side of the Alinco.I bet the internals are the same and the casing is just slightly different.Just like an old Jaguar and Daimler car from the 1970’s ( showing my age now) Cheers Tom. 26 CT 4029

From what it looks like the 6900 N V6 is what I have , anytone Quad 5 V6. As I been catching up this morning, there was one thing that I didn't care for was the "notched" clairifier. I never or haven't "programmed it" I just did the quick menu button poke for expanstion. We also had a company that took those chassies and called them "Top Gun", I believe they went through and cleaned up the RX with a few different parts. I have a local that has one, other than that the Top Gun is the same as the Q5 V6 I have. Im sure they may have been different rev's over production time line? If it were not so dang exspencive for shipping, I was wanting to donate my Q5v6 to the guy that was asking what radio is a good radio today to have to get back into the hobby. Sorry for any mis-spelling, English wasn't my forte' 2CT351 Jeremy.
