Hi guys
I've been given an old Barracuda 940 radio this morning and told, "I don't know if it works."
First basic examination shows that the power lead fuse is intact and working but nothing lighting up - and that's as far as I've looked at the moment. I think it will be a Saturday morning project as life takes over from radio sometimes!
I've searched the Internet for any service manuals or user guides and haven't been able to find much at all. Even YouTube doesn't have much
Just wondered if anybody out there has any info on these radios or can point me in the right direction as to where I can find it.

This seems to list documentation for a Barracuda HP940
Worth checking the diode on the power input first, (marked D10 on the schematic), if it's blown open chances are the rest of the radios is blown too. You should get at least a light on the S-meter though? Unless that's blown also, (trucker special of hooking them to 24V!)
Might be worth checking the on/off/volume control too, sitting on that corner they're often bumped from a drop damaging the switch.
Hope you get somewhere with it but no loss if it was a freebie. Could make a pretty doorstop.
All the best, Victor

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the links, Wayne. I'd seen the YouTube video but not the other info so thanks for taking the time to look for it
Thanks for the diagram, Victor. I haven't had chance to look at the radio properly today so it's looking like a weekend time-filler. If I can get it working, I'm thinking of replacing the DIN mic plug and socket with something more substantial. Failing that. as you say, an interesting doorstop
Thanks guys

Hi John,
No worries, should've noticed the YouTube link Wayne gave as that's an awesome example of CB radio repair right there.
TBH my answer was from memory and I'm currently struggling with Covid hence up at this ungodly hour checking CT!!
If it helps any here's a link to a free copy of the Rotel 240 service manual mentioned in the video :-

Thanks Victor
I wish I knew all these little tricks about the radio chassis being alike but, as they say, you can't teach experience. The service manual is a great help.
I've done my fair share of checking 'popped' caps and I'd rather not go down that route. I did like the reference on the Altium website to 'capacitor plague'
Hoping you'll be rid of the Covid soon. I picked it up in hospital last year...not pleasant
Best wishes
John
